How much loot are you using per turf? When i hop i upgrade my turf to 135 influence each and that makes the range for planting turf alot biggerOkay, I have been using loot, but the range to plant turf hasn't really changed, I have been going the same speed, and have traveled about 50 miles using and deleting about 20-25 turf, am I doing something wrong?

You're hopping for distance. You're hopping for speed.

Actually, I find Hyena to be correct because you don't have to switch between the upgrade screen and the map as often. Saves <20 seconds a turf but over a long hop that can add up.Hyena wrote: It's quicker to plant 10 turf then go and delete 10 turf than it is to plant 1 delete 1 and repeat 10 times. My reasoning behind this is you can do all you planting in a row on the map, then go to your turf list and quickly delete the 10 turf planted just before the most recently planted turf which is the starting turf for your next trail.
Your logic is faulty. It takes the same amount of time to build and tear down a turf no matter when you do it. Build 1, tear down 1, ten times or build 10, tear down 10, same thing. -
If you really want to save money, you'll have to sacrifice speed. To save money, only upgrade to storefronts (I think).. It will be 30 influence before loot. Then use all loot upgrades you have. (Bagmen optional). This method is hopping on a budget. The key is remember to take off upgrades before deleting. Also leave safety turf along the way.

Well then, I guess the best way to resolve this debate is to have a race. Since you and I are in many of the same cities, let's find a straight stretch of unobstructed road with no dead spots and see who gets to the finish line first. It doesn't need to be an endurance race to prove which method is faster so I propose a race of 10-20 miles in length with the following simple rules.
- start the race with one turf on the course.
- use as many turf as you like but you have to tear down all but the last one.
- if you use turf loot, you have to remove it before tearing down a turf.
- no maps allowed.
- no outside help.
- end the race with only one turf on the course. -

How about Dulles to Leesburg on 267? Starting at the intersection of 267 and 28? The only place I'm actively hopping now is Amsterdam to Brussels, but I did eventually want to get to West Virginia, which would get me most of the way there.

Finish line would be the intersection of 267 and 15.

LOL, you missed the part about unobstructed.
I propose a more reasonable route. We start NW of Dulles at the intersection of the 15 and the 50. We take the Snickersville Turnpike NW to Bearden Park in Bluemont, VA which is about 18 miles. I'd like to add one more rule to keep this as fair as possible:
- all turf must be planted on the turnpike, except for the final turf which will be in Bearden Park. In other words, no shortcuts. The Turnpike appears to have no deadspots and is relatively free of turf.
Since you are going to be leaving a train of turf which could effective block me, I suggest a staggered start.
Let's pick a time!
-
And since Bearden Park doesn't show up on Apple's maps, let's call the finish line the end of Snickersville Turnpike, the point where it doubles back to the 7.

Well, I'm at the emergency room at the moment and so am likely to be interrupted. I'll hop to the starting point and get back to you with a kickoff time. Are you going to stick with placing one turf and then deleting the one behind it before placing the next turf?LOL, you missed the part about unobstructed.

Wow, this got interesting. Will be interested in seeing the results. I had replied but got distracted with the kids and it wasn't posted before the game closed.
My thoughts are on a taps of the screen per plant and tear down there are less with my method than with the plant 1 tear 1. As when using the map you need to tap the turf once to select it, and again to open it up. Where as using the turf list you only need to tap once to open the turf.
-
Yes, I am going to hop with two turf.

Nice you've made some good progress I think the loot makes a difference but you don't notice. Honestly I have only hopped from Sacramento to the Bay AreaI'm prepping my self for a long hop, all the way to Kansas City, anyone have any tips for hopping? Like how to make it less expensive and how to keep some one from following your trail of turfs back to the city's your in so they can cap you?
-
Is this a race between methods or just on the plant and tear down options? Your race but I would have though to keep other factors out of the race that could affect the results it should be limited to 86 Inf turfs?
-
It's a race to see which of our two methods of hopping is faster. I'm going to hop with two loot-loaded turf and Jack is going to hop with a trail of many turf.
-
I can do it either way. Normally I hop with loot to get the extra distance but if I'm going for pure speed I use 86ers - a lot fewer taps per turf, as Hyena pointed out.
-
This should be fun!
-
Well, I'm at the starting point, just waiting for them to let me out of the ER now. They took blood from my hopping finger, though. 👿
