O2 sensor
Forums › General Discussion › O2 sensor-
This is aimed at all the car guys and girls, I have a question about something. First of all I drive a 99 honda civic ex, and my check engine is on ever since I bought it and figured out its the O2 sensor. Is the reason because the guy punched out the cat? I'm planning on cutting out the cat and just doing header back. If that is the problem, is there a way to bypass the check engine light? Thanks for all the suggestions and answers.

U could take out the check engine bulb... Hahaha. That's one way to bypass it

If you want the light out you gotta put a cat on it , make sure that sensor isn't an air fuel ratio sensor cause they are big bucks

Don't know about that model of car but there likely is a way around it. Google "cel fix" along with your cars make and model and you will most likely find what you need.
-
Just put a spoiler on you should be good.

Car talk sells a sticker to put over that light.

Oh it's not rice at all. Right now the sound is amazing, a low tone rumble. It has some kind if racing muffler on it, I really don't want stock because I like my lowered blacked out car haha. And I don't want a sticker to cover the light, just to bypass it so ill know if the light comes on for something else. The cat is valuable, probably why it's gone dont go cat back or whatever, it'll sound like shit. Go to junkyard and ask, popular car, might find one. Other than than, go to Honda. I drive a Civic EX, if that matters. Good luck, go stock, don't "rice" it out. Go to an AutoZone, etc, they'll tell ya what you need also, free

U may be able to reset the computer and hopefully it goes away...but make sure u have autozone read all the codes for u first, so u know what really needs to be fixed...IMO the light should go away after a reset...autozone can do that too
-
Or remove the light like he said up there and have autozone read the codes whenever ur worried

The problem with removing the cat and o2 sensor is it will affect the computer controlled air/fuel ratio. I believe it's possible to rework the computer to adjust the ratio, but as it sits now, I'm betting your fuel efficiency is suffering.

If you have confirmed it is an o2 sensor and your cats are removed it is likely the sensor after the cats. You can usually buy a sensor or a spacer that will cheat the computer to make it seem as if your emissions are up to par. I've even seen some people that have simply relocated the sensor. Important: if you are in an emissions testing state your car will not pass emissions.

Yeah I don't have emissions luckily. I will look into the spacer for sure, I think relocating that sensor would be a lot of work. I had my cat stolen once and I did a cheap fix by straight piping it. I drilled a hole in it and welded a couple of washer on it. I then tapped the washers so I would be able to thread in the o2 sensor. This is a cheap fix but not nearly as good as just getting a new cat.

If there's nothing wrong with the car and its just the exhaust modification causing the light to come on, you could always put a diagnostics machine on it and clear it so the light doesn't come on again.. Hope this helps 👍
