Who enjoys reading?
Forums › General Discussion › Who enjoys reading?-
Ok so I have been wanting to find a really good book or series of books to read lately and I have yet to find one. I am currently finishing the final book of the inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini but I am almost finished. So what should I read. By the way I am a junior in high school so that should help suggest good books for me.
Also another topic I was thinking was the fact that most high school students hate reading... That just really gets to me cause reading is the best thing in the world next to punching codes. They always say yeah I only read when I have to and they don't even read then! We had to read A separate peace for school and everyone always asked me what was happening in the book because they didn't want to read it. Also I am no nerd. Best pitcher on varsity baseball FTW.
I just like gathering all of your opinions so please chime in and let's get the ball rolling

I hate reading that's why my reading level is low and can't write.
On topic I recomend the perks of being a wall flower, the catcher in the rye, or the great gatsby -
Spiral, quake, and warhead (3 seperate books, follow the same story) by Andy Remic, are fantastic. It's distopian military future. The characters are fantastic and really in depth, I personally really enjoyed the story. Give it a go and see what you think.

I'd find a college entrance reading list and go to town. The classics never get old. I've always been partial to all things hg wells and Jules Verne myself.

Why not broaden your horizons by including authors from other parts of the world?
🔥Ahmadou Kourouma - Waiting for the Wild Beasts to Vote (a satirical account of African dictatorships)
🔥Chimanda Ngozi Adichie - Half of a Yellow Sun (three characters' lives intertwine in post-civil war Nigeria)
🔥Khairy Shalabi - The Time Travels of the Man Who Sold Pickles and Sweets (a quirky introduction to Egyptian history over the past 1000 years)
🔥Pär Lagerkvist - Barabbas (about the biblical Barabbas, a simple man accused of theft and initially sentenced to be crucified alongside other criminals, and thereby witnessed the crusifiction of Jesus)
🔥Chetan Bhagat - Revolution 2020: Love, Corruption, and Ambition (a love triangle, corruption, and everything that is wrong with the education system in India)
Nadine Gordimer is also a gem 👍

I recently read Divergent by Veronica Roth and I loved it. There's a second one called Insurgent and a third in the making.

Talk to your library workers. I was in the library almost everyday for study hall to read. They were a lot of help. Only thing I miss almost as much as wrestling from H.S. is the easy access to a library.
As for what to read there were already a ton of great books mentioned but I have a couple more.
1- fire bringer.
2- the golden compass and later books. And does anyone remember the name of those Merlin series?

Oh and pretty much anything by John Grisham. But don't start with the one with "house" in the title. I don't remember the name but it was a slow book of his and not his normal writing. Still good though.Talk to your library workers. I was in the library almost everyday for study hall to read. They were a lot of help. Someone mentioned Peter Pan and another The Great Gatsby, both phenomenal books. Through the Looking Glass and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are great too. The Wizard of Earthsea series by Ursula K Le Guin or anything by Tolkien or CS Lewis are good if you like sci-fi/fantasy.
All this coming from a sophomore in HS 👍

Why not try just one personal development book? It might have a positive lasting impact on your life. I'd suggest Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill or Five Major Pieces to Life's Puzzle by Jim Rohn.

I loved the maze runner series and the compound. Great endings also.

Read some James Patterson books. I'm currently reading The Women's Murder Club Series and it is really good. I really like the Private series, too!

AJ Hartley wrote a book trilogy called the Darwen Arkwright books. The first is Darwen Arkwright and the peregrine pact. You may like it if you like fantasy. I know a lot of teens love that Immortal Instruments series by Clary whatever. I haven't read em yet, but people on Facebook are all about them, lol. Also I really liked The Night Circus.
