I'm buying my 1st car🚘
Forums › General Discussion › I'm buying my 1st car🚘-
I'm in the process of buying my first car, and I'm asking the TW community for ideas for a good, safe, and affordable first car.
Here's the parameters:
-$7000 or lower
-2006-7 or newer
-Low mileage ( wouldn't be able to tell on here)
-no trucks/vans
-automatic trans.I've been looking at mazda 3/6 and Pontiac g6's . So any other suggestions would be great!

Volvo S40, S60 or the V range. Very reliable and safe car and the luxury SE addition is fantastic. Check it out 👍

Don't get imports parts are insanely pricey and they are not as reliable as you think. Are you able to get a 2006 or newer for only $7000? My suburban is 2003 and worth $10000 according to kbb

Mazda3👍

Look at the Ford Focus, we bought ours new in 2000, and its still going strong. We have only done what I consider routine maintainence, aside from an ignition replacement.
It gets around 32 mpg hwy and low 20's in town, except when our son drives, then it gets considerably less.
Overall a good car.

I hate to say it but stay with an import car, domestic makers just cants seem to get the cars right, but if u were lookin for a truck...

If you buy a used G6 ask them to throw in an extra transmission, you'll need at least one and probably two if you keep it for more than a couple years.

I had a Chevy cobalt for a few years, not a bad little car at all. 32 mpg all day long, 38 on the highway (it was a manual) fun to drive, reasonably good handling, not ugly looking. Best of all the insurance should be inexpensive. You should be able to get a well equipped one for a lot less than your budget. Save some money and go on a road trip.

This got me thinking about a ford ranger I once owned so did a quick search and found the following. Perfect example of why you always want to read the car fax (you can check it out on this page as autotrader typically shows car fax for free). Also verify the vin if you go to a dealer and they give you a carfax printout. Bought a jaguar xk8 once that ended up having a ton of problems. A year later I finally noticed that the carfax was for another jaguar of same year and color. Pissed me off big time because I just couldn't believe a jaguar dealership would stoop that low. By then the sales team all the way up through the manager had been replaced. Lesson learned.

I was gonna suggest a muscle car, nothing like a project car as your first.
But since you want a more recent model, go with a Toyota. -

Toyota from the last few years? Quality really dipped when they took over the market. Now a 90's Yota, definitely.I was gonna suggest a muscle car, nothing like a project car as your first.

Id definitely suggest something domestic. My first car was an 04 oldsmobile alero. I drove it for 8 years until some dipshit rear ended me on the freeway and totaled it. But in 8 years, i never had to do any major repairs. Id probably sti be driving that car today had that accident not happened. Just make sure you keep up with regular maintenance :) 💋

Honda civic or accord, plenty of cheap parts available, easy to maintain and lasts forever. Just remember to change fluids on a regular interval and you'll be fine.

Where do you live? This is a very important factor

Honda or Toyota, I have both and both have almost 200k on them, I've never had any problems with them I just keep up with the maintance . Timing Belts are very important, expencive to change so most people will dump a car 40k after it should have been changed (every 60k) so make sure it's been changed, get proof or expect to get a car and get it changed fast. You can wait and maybe nothing will happen but if it breaks you have to replace the entire top end and you'll be stuck somewhere waiting for a tow truck
-
And change the water pump when you change the timing belt since its under the timing cover anyway.
-
2007 Honda Fit. I have one and its like a go cart and has great mpg. And if you're like me, aftermarket upgrades are pretty cheap too.
-
Get a manual!!! They are so much fun! (Except if you live in a big city)
-
Front wheel drive car is your best bet. Car because its good on gas and front wheel for the winter time especially since its your first. Get a Chevy Cobalt, most bang for your buck.
