Visiting the outer banks
Forums › General Discussion › Visiting the outer banks-
In a little less than a month I'm going to the outer banks, staying in kill devil hills. What are the best things to do in that area, all of the outer banks not just KDH.

Where is this located

North Carolina about an hour south of Virginia beach

Get a 4x4 and drive up the beach and see the wild horses.
Go to Ocracoke island. The ferry is still free. The drive alone is very scenic. Worth the trip.

You can drive on the beach all the way up to the VA state line.
Many houses up there that ya need 4x4 to get to.Ocracoke is in the opposite direction. (South) Highly recommend going to Howard's Pub for dinner. (Family friendly). The island is very laid back and relaxing.
With tourist season starting, prepare for gridlock traffic everywhere during the weekend. What a pain in the ass.
And go to duck and get some donughts, and stay away from the land mine field. It's real.

I'm sure this is obvious, but go to the beach. I was there when I was a kid, and loved the beaches.

Definently see the horses. It's a pretty amazing sight.

Nah, it's pretty boring. There's a lighthouse on the mainland. If you're going that far, might as well keep going... You'll enjoy getting away from mass crowds of tourists.
For souvenirs there is a wings on every corner. And don't be fooled by the one joint with the huge "Going out of business" sign. Look closely, it says Going Out FOR Business. (For is super small) Place is a ripoff.
If you see the wild horses, as cute as they are, don't go pet them, the Currituck County Sherriff will fine you!

Wow that's surprising, is there at least some good hiking there? But I would probably just go to ocracoke if we went that farNah, it's pretty boring. There's a lighthouse on the mainland. If you're going that far, might as well keep going... You'll enjoy getting away from mass crowds of tourists.

Ocracoke Is home to a place called Howard's pub. Best burgers in the world and hundreds of beers from all around the world. Place is awesome

If hiking is what you're into, then yeah, you'll find plenty in that area.
If your first time, do a dolphin tour out on a boat. Fun once. You can also rent jet skis!

Go fishing. You can fish right from the beach or you can pay to go out on the fishing piers. You can also charter a boat. Some of the best salt water fishing around.

You should make an airplane out of old bicycle parts and fly it.
