For those not aware with an interest.
The Lyrids Meteor shower is happening tonight. You will need to check your own countries best viewing times.
Usually it will be about 20meteors per hour but can be up to over 60.. So fingers crossed.
Also on Thursday there will be a lunar eclipse, which is always nice. -
Thanks Ramb.I will be on the look out for that.
-
Cheers ramb I try not cap them meteors lmao

If our 21 inch picks anything up tonight ill be sure to share a link to them.

There were some meteors seen last night. Me and some friends hiked up the top of the campus bit after midnight.

It is advised not to use telescopes, they are easier to see with the naked eye. You could always see the after glow though I guess.ℒƬ. ʗøℒʊℳℬɵ wrote:

Seen a fair few last night/early hours this morning. Being in town and the moon being pretty bright in the sky meant a lot of unwanted light. Once the moon started dipping, left a short period of darkness before the morning blues began to flood. A nice tip for bringing a bit more into view while maintaining a wider view of the sky is to use binoculars. For those that haven't tried this, you'd be amazed at how many more objects you can see in general. Still, unless you know where to point your glass, you're better off using your in built lens kit. 😉 👀

Ah, of course. I forget how much technology we have at our disposal on these magical devices of ours. 😄👍

Thanx for the heads up Ramb . In Mo. however weather is cloudy , I just cleaned a Meade D'S 2000 . A fall down alcoholic lady friend of mine was gonna throw in the trash cuz she spilt gin & tonic down in it & left out on her back porch for over a year ... Sure enough I did everything the manual said NOT TO DO .. Distilled water & cotton pieces ... 1 horizontal swipe & discard
Using a new cotton piece every time .. No bleaks !! Man it be nice to catch a break . I'm out in the cut w/ next to no junk light . Has anyone ever calibrated one of these autostar scopes ?
Good looking out . -
That means the world is ending, right?
-
So I set my alarm for 3am to go smoke a joint and watch the meteors... Clouds, lots of clouds.
Anyone get a good view? -

I was so tired from staying up the night before to stay up last night. Ah well, there's always next years show.
-
How did I not get that joke.. Psssh, 😞 head hung in shame.
-
I was out last night... Didn't see much.. :( only like two... One was very bright too, both moved pretty slow.
-
Lol, actually I do have a telescope and was impressed with the 21". That's a lot of light gathering ability, I'm envious.
-
Perseids starting August 10 should be the better show for northern hemisphere guys . Should be best of year . Having said that I've just been to the apparently best northern lights display ever and it was ......... Wait for it ......... Shit
-
Nice one Shaggly. I'll try to remember that!
-
Where was that shaggs? It's an ambition of mine to see the northern lights in all thier glory.
On the whole telescope issue, I know next to nothing about them but want a nice start up kit, any personal preferences you guys would recommend? I'm not concerned about "s 😄👍
-
And don't say in the north lol!! 😜 Was it a habitated place or did you have to trek to the middle of crazy snowfields?

I,too, would like to get a telescope that wouldn't be too expensive.A recommendation would be much appreciated,(if it can see through curtains all the better).Where was that shaggs? It's an ambition of mine to see the northern lights in all thier glory.

Best bang for buck is a Newtonian reflector. Highly advise an equatorial mount, a little more expensive, but saves a lot of grief - makes it a lot easier to track at higher magnification.

What?! It was YESTERDAY?!?! God DAMN IT!!!!!

Just get something like a Meade with autostar tracking system to start . No point going mad and never finding anything . I bought a really good one an it's still in the box as I don't know what to do with it either . Planets = cool stars = dots (dull). I was in the wildsWhere was that shaggs? Of the arctic circle . Northern lights bit of a
Con really . You don't see the greens with the naked eye only with slow shutter photography . Hence the films u see are just time lapse photos linked together to make it look awesome . -
Thanks for the tips on the scopes, I'll bear them in mind while browsing. I was looking at a fairly reasonably priced one earlier with the auto track doodah. I want to try and find a mount for my SLR also, try and snap some nice things. 👍 And Vish, Brother... I use my trusty binoculars for that kinda peeping. 😄👀
That is a shame about the lights man, maybe they were having a bad hair day. :)
