Agreed. I just spoke with a friend a few days ago who shocked me by admitting he had contemplated suicide... Not because he was feeling bad, but because his family is falling apart and he was hoping him being gone would sober then up into realizing what they have to lose.

This is heartbreaking - we really need to start looking past our navels and realizing the impact we have on others. I was struck by the family of Sunil Tripathy, a Brown student who recently committed suicide, making this statement:

"This last month has changed our lives forever, and we hope it will change yours too. Take care of one another. Be gentle, be compassionate. Be open to letting someone in when it is you who is faltering. Lend your hand. We need it. The world needs it."
