I felt as if this was a good story to share..
So my kid comes home from school visibly upset about something. So I asked her how her day was like I normally do, and she responds back with "not good." I asked her why it wasn't good.. She then says "During recess i was singing a song and 2 boys heard me. They said i wasn't a good singer. Then one of the boys asked if my family was retarded and I said no. Then they started to say my family was retarded" her eyes started to water up she continued with "and it really hurt.." So I respond with" Honey, you are a wonderful singer and they are obviously just jealous of your beautiful voice. Let me ask you this, do you think we are retarded?" she responds with "No, of course not." i reply back with "Then that is all that should matter. If a person knows that what they say bothers you they will continue to poke at you. Who cares what they think, if they think that we are retarded than more power to us for being retarded."

I guess the moral of this story is that no matter what anyone says about you in life, you should embrace their ignorance and immaturity with humor and dignity. This may or may not be considered 'bullying', but i believe that anything that may be bothering a child mentally, no matter how irrellevant or miniscule it may seem to an adult, is rather important to approach and should be dealt with in a positive manor where the child understands that it is ok to be who they want to be and to not hold back from doing something they want to do because there is a possibility of being made fun of and succumbing to peer pressure.
P.s. What i really wanted to say was to give them the 'peoples elbow' to the neck but that would be completely hypocritical of me 👊😠

Lol. I would have thrown the elbows. But in all seriousness kids can be little assholes sometimes. But how you perceive it is what defines who you will become as a person. It's the haters that keep me motivated.
