Mac Air or Windows based laptop
Forums › General Discussion › Mac Air or Windows based laptop-
Looking for some suggestions, I have never owned or even used a Mac computer. I've got a lot of expensive software on my laptop such as auto cad and chief architect. It doesn't seem to operate as well now with this stuff on it and honestly, I don't want my computer to crash with this stuff on it. One question I have is i7 worth the upgrade and with this kind of stuff on it will I need to upgrade to 8 gigs of ram? And feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Macs are really superior for pro graphic design and pro audio work. Outside of that, stay with something familiar. I7 chip is smart regardless of platform. Max RAM = good.

Web design graphic design ( air book ) ! Ask.com could give you a better pull on your question . Mac does not save to its registry like windows does so speed is always protected and secured !

Don't just look for i7's only. There are plenty of good i5's that are much better than the i7. It all depends on the what processor is used.
Anys if you never used Mac I wouldn't get one, stick with what your used too.8 Gigs is good, but with your requests I think even 6 gigs will do for you. But nothing lower.
Also having an SSD Drive(Solid State Disk) is a great pick, but it will cost you. But it's so much better than a normal hard drive.

My friend had an Alienware computer and to my MacBook Pro its pretty nice. Please don't nail me to the cross because I think it's cool. 😔

I'm more of an expert on gaming.
But if your buying from online I would use
Newegg.com.
great place for nerds like me, great prices, service, and a wide selection. -
MacBook Pro over Air if your going to use autocad etc. if you intend to put parallels on the mac just buy a PC.
i5 or i5, design software is heavily Ram based. Make sure you have 64-bit OS otherwise it'll only register a max of 4gb ram.
Get a 64gb SSD (pretty cheap these days), put the OS and all software on it then keep a sata drive for all files etc.
Brand is pretty irrelevant for a laptop as once stripped you will find most parts are from te same manufacturer. If its an aesthetically pleasing laptop you want then just get Mac. -
Macs crash. Macs get Mac viruses. Macs are about 2 1/2 times the price of similarly equiped PCs. But they look cool. I recommend a PC and put the extra money you save into more ram. I7 all the way. CAD is both ram intensive and processor intensive.

Mac viruses? Never heard of one since the many years I've owned them. They are, however, definitely pricey. PCs are good for very standardized tasks as so many schools, offices, and homes use them. IMO the operating system (7 and below) are a little weird, but 8 brings some good changes and bad changes. Macs are better if you are looking into getting a lot more serious in to particular tasks. Although they are not as common as windows-running machines, they will get the task done. It's all a matter of opinion.Macs crash. Macs get Mac viruses. Owned several macs and few PCs + ones at local schools. -
Also macs do have a tendency to lag / crash in more hardware intensive cases.

Stay away from the air. It's low powered, meant to be ultra portable. The portability comes at the price of performance.
If you need power, and want a portable package, the MacBook Pro is they way is go if you want to go Mac.
If you are comfortable in Windoze, by all means stick with it, and find a capable machine, especially if you have pricey software made for that platform.

Windows and build your own x2 the specs with same price or cheaper 👍
