Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the UBB mine disaster. 29 men lost their lives, one of which I knew pretty well.
Coal mining is a very dangerous profession, but these deaths could've even prevented. The mine electricians were ordered to bypass the sniffers (methane detectors) because they were mining in a seam with a lot of gas pockets. If the sniffers had been operational, operations would be stopped, the mine would be vented, and the coal company would lose profit. Those greedy assholes chose money over other people's lives. -
