Anyone else play? My new gaming computer arrives next week. I got heavily into MMOs during the latter part of the 2000's but have taken a hiatus during the last few years. Yeah I'm a geek. Guild Wars 2 was where I was heading until I learned how dumbed down the controls were (along with next to no pve end game content). I'm not interested in World of Casualcraft despite hearing good things about their most recent expansion. So that basically leaves Rift with a decent player population - and I've heard great things about Rift's new xpac Storm Legion. I hear the pvp is unbalanced but I can deal with lack of balance over a dumbed down GW2 approach. I enjoyed arenas in wow so hopefully Rift implements something similar.
Anyway... Anyone else play Rift or other MMOs? What advice do you have for a new player? Rift will likely be my new obsession so TW will become my go-to game only when away from my computer. If anyone else plays hit me up in a PM with your toon name. I'll be rolling on Faeblight. β

Ive played rift for about Γ year, to THE point that i fiund myself doing THE very Same thing that made me quit wow... Get character, level to max level, start grinding dungeons, when gear allows it start raiding... And THE unavoidable mats/rep grinding...
Rift is Γ cool change as opposed to wow, they are very similar, however, where rift shines is in its build handeling.
I made Γ rogue first (its Γ class tree, not THE wow rogue class π) started off with Γ ranger/marksman build to hit Γ wall at 35, swapped to Γ nightblade/riftstalker/bladedancer build and had tonnes of fun devastating THE mobs.
I also had Γ cleric with Γ duracell build that was unstoppable in Γ pve grinding session...
Going to stop here, but rift is deffo worth Γ go in my opinion

Free. Skins cost money, and you can unlock champs with money, but no- it's most certainly not pay to win. I exclusively play two (unless ranked) you could get within a couple days of playing and destroy with them. It's about as far from pay to win as it gets.

Thanks Fartex - I played a shadow priest main in wow with a strong sub rogue alt, so I was thinking of an inq/cabalist for one toon and a MM/bard/tactician for my rogue (not sure which will be my main). The rift world events, cairns, pvp, dimensions, and general world grinding is what is attracting me to be honest - its not really about the loot, boss, better loot cycle for me. plus the constant content updates. I'm excited - the support role in dungeons also sounds interesting but I'm not sure how they will play out in practice. Thanks for the comments guys.

I play WoW, STO, LOTR and D&D
Haven't played Rift in a while, must start that one up again.
With WoW I get a little pissed off with the daily grind (my highest is an 88 night elf) of processing stuff just to get extra money.......
STO is a lot better, and now that's got an expansion out in may I'll forward to it very muchLOTR and D&D: not played much because of work commitments

Post your guys summoner names for leagues.

GW2, dumbed down?
It has the most complicated controls out of all MMORPGs I've ever played. It's not stand there and click or tap, you actually have to do shit.

Especially if youre not a ranged chatacter. I have been working on a new norn warrior character and my main weapon is a greatsword. Its much different than my sylvari ranger because i have to be constantly moving so i am within hitting distance of the enemy im fighting. Plus there are dodges and such you need to do, jumping puzzles, skill challengeS, to name a few things that can be considered frustrating or not dumbed down.

I haven't played GW so i'm only speaking from buddies who love pvp. They said the dodge mechanic was executed poorly and there aren't many abilities - it feels console-ish and clunky, like you should be playing with a controller. And btw melee players, you should be moving around and repositioning constantly in melee (at least in pvp).GW2, dumbed down?

Also I said the controls were dumbed down, not the game itself or any "puzzles or skill challenges". Again - just what I heard, not from personal experience.

What I heard was that things that require skills in pvp in movement and controls such as positioning, kiting, gap closers, gap creators, mobility, trinkets, cc, etc. were all virtually all replaced by a clunky "dodge" mechanic and once your dodge ability was up you were basically toast. So that's what I mean by "dumbed down controlls". I would try it out for myself but the lack of end game doesn't interest me, despite being FTP.
