Don't know if anyone else has been following the case regarding the Steubenville Ohio high school football players charged with rape but they were found guilty today. What a sad story filled with dumb decisions by young people and their lives will forever be changed!!
If you haven't seen it just google it. It's all over and worth the read. Especially for those in high school ~ really gives you perspective on how partying and social media can impact you instantly!

Wish they'd have been tried as adults.

Stupid kids.

I feel sorry about the girl.... Her future life could as well suffering from this. Why is it ok to take advantage of a girl if shes drunk or has a too short skirt?
-
Thanks for posting this. I read the earlier post about it and researched some and I was wondering the other day how it was going.
-
Finally. Have you seen the video of them bragging? It's disgusting.

Good,I often visit Steubenville and its a great city.but since this happened my opinion changed of it.

And with good behavior they'll both serve less than two years in a juvenile detention facility then move on as if nothing happened. Our system is fucked.

Be that as it may, this type of thing will be a permanent record and they'll go down as registered sex offenders. While the immediate punishment seems light it's the lifelong repercussions that are the real punishment. Plus like 4/5's of America knows about this case. They'll have to go to Mexico just to get a job.And with good behavior they'll both serve less than two years in a juvenile detention facility then move on as if nothing happened. Our system is fucked.

Not to mention all the ones who were there & filmed it being let off scott free in exchange for their testimony. They are guilty as hell, did nothing to stop anything, but have zero consequences for their actions/ lack of actions. And with good behavior they'll both serve less than two years in a juvenile detention facility then move on as if nothing happened. They will not make a decision on whether or not they have to register as sex offenders until after their "treatment". Also a large portion of the town is still calling the girl a skank who got drunk and slept around. If those boys never leave that town they'll be just fine. That girl on the other hand will be tortured around that town. Her life wil never go back to normal and her family will more than likely end up having to move to get away.Funky Buffalo wrote:

It's a shame the people of that town wot acknowledge these boys wrongdoings because they're a part of the shitty small town football team.

They should tattoo the words "sex offender" on every sex offender's forehead.

Good to hear they were convicted.
I can't believe the court works on Sunday.
-
I don't really see how social media impacted them. Yes, it allowed them to be brought to justice, but it didn't rape anyone for them. And rape isn't a "dumb decision." Speeding, not returning a library book, skipping class... Those are "dumb decisions." Being a rapist isn't comparable to any of those things.
I think the issue here is entitlement: look how many celebrities are convicted/accused of sexual assault. These athletes need to start hearing the word "no" a little more so they learn what it means. -

Move this case back in time say 15 years and would the whole world know about it? Odds are no .. Media .. Aka YouTube, Facebook etc allowed the story to spread overnight and worldwide rapidly which does have a huge impact on a case.. The whole world can cast judgement and persuade versus a small few. It makes a difference. And i chose the word dumb because I like to keep it clean if you will rather than some choice word ..I don't really see how social media impacted them. Yes, it allowed them to be brought to justice, but it didn't rape anyone for them. And rape isn't a "dumb decision." Speeding, not returning a library book, skipping class... Agree completely .. The video was disgusting and jmo but they all should have some sort of repercussion for participating whether it be community service or something. I can't imagine being their parent and how embarrassed they have to feel.Funky Buffalo wrote:
