Baked Apples
Forums › General Discussion › Baked Apples-
Recently I have been cooking a majority of my fathers meals. He has some pretty extreme dietary needs and restrictions, so Have to modify recipes to suit his personal needs. This evening I made us baked apples for a late night snack.
The recipe was as follows:
4 large baking apples
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup currants or chopped raisins
1 Tbsp butter
3/4 cup boiling waterAfter I tailored the recipe, it looked like this:
4 large baking apples
1 tbsp blackstrap molasses
1 tbsp honey
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup chopped raisins
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp flax oil
3/4 cup boiling waterIt doesnt always work out, but this one happened to come out amazingly well. 🍎
Feel free to share your current favorites.

It might help to add that the apples were stuffed, placed in the water, and baked for 30 minutes. The recipe asked for a pat of butter topping each but I used flax oil instead. The apples were basted after baking.

Clever adaptation. The molasses did not overpower? If diet allows it, use rum! Same base ... Lol

Great adaptation from a wonderful son. Your dad is lucky to have you. 😘 Yummy!

Now you do that after you've left Atlanta for Miami.....😢

It tasted great to me, but I favor dark and bitter to plain sugary sweet flavors. The rum does sound good. The molasses did not overpower? If diet allows it, use rum!Lol

I'm plotting a cassoulet later in the week. Although I did soy some rabbits in the butchers window...
