WASHINGTON A baby born with the AIDS virus appears to have been cured, scientists announced Sunday, describing the case of a child from Mississippi who's now two and a half years old and has been off medication for about a year with no signs of infection.

There's no guarantee the child will remain healthy, although sophisticated testing uncovered just traces of the virus' genetic material still lingering. If so, it would mark only the world's second reported cure.

Some people are born with immunities to the virus. And some babies actually fight off the virus.

Now if they tested it on an adult who has had the aids virus for multiple years, then we've a break through.

Thank god for that lucky child though, hopefully we're getting closer to curing the disease

There's no such thing as the AIDS virus... It's called HIV virus... Now I'm confused... Did the baby have the HIV virus or did he have AIDS? Two different things.

You are somewhat wrong Zraygo. The baby was cured for a short time before HIV came back. Its cured if you continue to take the drug everyday.

I've been wondering this for a while now... What's the difference? They both do the same thing as far as I know.

AIDS is the final stage in the disease, occurs usually after 10 years after contraction. HIV is the virus which causes AIDS.
