The accident yesterday that killed 16 tourists was shocking.
What's more horrific are some of the details. A fire started on the basket when a rope tore a hose free at around 6 feet. This is when the only two survivors jumped to safety (one the Egyptian pilot).
The ballon then rose uncontrolled, as it filled with the hot air from the fire. More passengers jumped at around 100 feet, they died. The ballon continued to rise, until finally at 1000 feet, it fell back to earth.
The thought of being trapped on that thing made me shudder.

Wow the pilot should've told them to jump when he did, he must've known the balloon was going to ascend higher

People tend to panic when they consider the thought they might die. It's horrible, but that explanation is one that I would accept. You brain is in panic mode and all.

A captain should be the last to leave a sinking ship. Ok, the opposite is applicable here but still he had his passengers to take care of.

This is much faster than a ship. He would have had time to think then. But I agree
