TW book club
Forums › General Discussion › TW book club-
Hello! I've noticed that quite a few of my fellow TW players are also bookworms so I had an idea to start a TW book club. This would entail having a room to discuss books you've read and debate certain themes you find interesting. If there's enough interest, maybe it can operate like an actual book club (we all read the same book once a month and have a time to discuss it). Anyway if you're interested, please join [tw bookclub] on palringo.
Also feel free to make suggestions here. Thanks!! ☺ -
What's the first book? I'll decide whether to join based purely on how intellectual this club is going to be. If we're talking Where's Waldo or R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series, I'm in. Les Miserables or Great Gatsby, I'm out.
-
... Probably somewhere between Waldo and Les Mis... Definitely more modern. Knockemstiff might be a good first book. Either way, that would be a group decision.
-
What about the communist manifesto? Has anyone read it?
-
I have actually read it and I think it's interesting when you think about what factories have done to quality of product... That was the part that always resonated to me: the assertion that when man becomes alienated from the product he builds, he becomes complacent.
-
Joined. I think we should read 50 shades of grey.
-
My vote is anything by Malcolm Gladwell. Are we doing fiction or nf? My vote would be nf but I'm down for anything.
-
I think if we are going down that route, Anne Rice's Claiming of Sleeping Beauty trilogy is much better. The s and m is more believable... And it wasn't plagiarized, which is also cool.
-
Either one. I like non fiction, particularly essay. Any David Sedaris fans? He kills me.
-
I <3 almost anything nonfiction.
-
Have you read A million little pieces by James Frey? That would be a good non fic book to start with.
-
No I haven't, but I looked at the info for it, and it sounds good!
-
Let me know if anyone is interested in any works by Karl Marx.
-

I'll re-read it. It's been years for me, sounds fun.
Tall Kid, you like Oscar Wilde? Have you ever read Salome? -
Kasher in the rye looks interesting too.

It is interesting. It talks about TRUE communism. Not that bullshit that horrible men like Stalin and Castro used.☣ 🎸ӈɪƖƖßıƖƖγ🎸☣ wrote:

I think we should vote on a book for this month.

👆. I wouldn't mind reading it but we'd have to classify it as fiction, and watch the satire A Million Little Fibers (south park) as a companion piece. I'm also against reading Marx or any other political nonfiction, because that will result in nothing but left v right bomb throwing like every other political thread.💋ẙɵҡɵ ɵɲɵ💋 wrote:

How about World War Z? Or Sphere? Or possibly Devil In the White City?
-
Zone One, a literary zombie story.

I haven't read it but my wife did. Since I saw his interviews with Oprah I wouldn't be able to stomach the bullshit. No respect for someone that tries to pass off lies as truth. He got famous and rich off of that book and the exposure Oprah gave him.༺☠Ꮹཞ༏ཀཀ☠༻ wrote:

I used to read all the time before Turf Wars. Lol. Do forum threads and pal history count?
-
Yes, please!
-
I'd be down for this.
Better get Pal back up.
