MacBook

I'm deciding between a MacBook Pro retina, or a MacBook Air. I'm leaning towards the pro because it has a DVD player. I might get the ipad mini 2 when it comes out, just because I can get the data plan. Does anyone know if I can get wifi everywhere anytime-even in a car or bus- on a MacBook? If u guys can find something like that I'm going away from the ipad mini 2

Please? I'm having trouble deciding

Really not a Mac fan at all but whatever you do don't go for the MacBook air.

Mac book pro does not come with an optical drive anymore. None of their laptops do. The retina will cost a shitload more than the air. Is this you or your parents in this income tax bracket?

I bought one about four months ago and I love it. Had to spring for an optical drive (see above) but other than that it's great. My wife has a brand new pro also, and I can't tell the difference.Really not a Mac fan at all but whatever you do don't go for the MacBook air.

just bought the 13" air and love it. The apple SuperDrive is 80$. I bought it and I'm surprised how little I use it. Almost everything is online now. Not retina on the air. My wife bought me the new iPad w/ ret and I honestly don't see the big deal. It looks great but not worth doubling the CPU cost for the same insides.

Honesty, build a PC. Way cheaper than a $2500 over priced Mac.

Check macrumors.com, they have a buying guide that will help keep you from buying something a few weeks before a new model comes out. That's important.
It depends on what you want it to do. If you just want a light weight email, web surfing, and the occasional PowerPoint and photo editing, the air fits the bill. If you want to do anything involving video, pro is a must.
One thing to keep in mind with a Mac is it will last a long time, it will physically keep running long after it becomes obsolete. The faster computer you buy today the longer before it becomes out dated. I have a 4 year old Mac book pro that was top of the line when it was new. It doesn't compare to even the bottom end ones of today, but it still runs anything I want it to run, and does it well. I think it has another 2 years left in it if it keeps going the way it is. If I saved some money and bought a lower end computer I'm not sure that would be the case.

Macs are much more reasonably and competitively priced these days and you get a lot for your money.
To answer OmNomNomer's original question: get the MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro sounds like you're going to be getting something more, but unless you are a professional photographer looking at 30+ MP RAW images from your new 800E, you will be super happy with the light weight portability of the MacBook Air.
My wife has one and she loves it.
As for the optical drive, you really don't need them anymore. We opted not to buy it for her and see of we need it, and she's never missed it. The few times (and I mean very few times) we needed one, I popped it into my computer and air shared it over the wifi so she could install her program or access the documents.
Just my $.02

I have both, a self built pc and a Mac Air and man I love my Air. It's the newest and fastest one. Fully SSD. Perfect for what I use it for.
It depends on what you're going to do with it really. IMO the only reason to buy a pro is when you're doing some serious video editing.

PCs are boring and for work. Macs are more enjoyable to use in my opinion. Optical drives are not essential anymore so I would base an answer on how much portability you want

Thanks guys:) I'm going to get the air:)
