Modern day military, commercial, and cultural imperialism to a degree that has never been seen before. We have been the standard for the independent global economy for almost 70 years. You can have your high math scores, Sweden, because Americans count in $billions. 🇺🇸

We had the balls to convince the rest of the world to nuke Finland after they were considering telling the truth about our space cash to the space cops.
Awwww.... Not a Finrin'!

That's really funny. Because Sweden has had the best and most consistent economy for years and years. While everyone else, including the USA, was experiencing all the economic troubles and recessions for the past decade, Sweden's economy has actually grown over that time.Modern day military, commercial, and cultural imperialism to a degree that has never been seen before. Aub, that's a myth. Check out tradingeconomics.com. Since 2010, the US has had steady growth ranging from .1% to 4.1% every quarter until the most recent (contracted .1%). During that same time period, Sweden has ranged from -1% to 2.3%.Back in 2008 during the global recession, Sweden saw five straight quarters of zero growth (including two straight quarters of -3.9% and -2.5%). So although that wasn't as severe as the US contracting -8.9% and -5.3% during the same quarters, Sweden experienced the same recession as all of us.
Lastly, the US GDP is $15 trillion. Sweden? $550 billion. That's less than 4% of the United States. (continued...)

I was making my comment in jest and picked Sweden only because of their excellent educational system. I was half joking and Sweden does have an excellent economy and is probably a great place to live. But when it comes to economics, nothing has come close to the United States brand of capitalism in terms of pure output in the last 70 years. There's a reason the global economic standard is the American dollar.

Khal, I'm an economist by trade. Yes, sweden hasn't had growth every quarter, but they have performed better than every other developed country. When everyone else has -10% growth, sweden's -2% is best. Also, comparing total GDP is a bad argument. Sweden has much less population, so saying they have less GDP is more of "no shit" statement. Also, they don't measure success by GDP, but by having everything they need. And they do have it all. They have a better performing economy, more welfare, more taxes, more social programs, and a more satisfied populace. In economic terms, the US Dollar is still the standard because it has been for a long time, and people are scared of change, NOT because our economy is good.

I hear you Aub. Sweden's population is so tiny relative to other industrial nations that it's difficult to compare economies because of scaling issues. You definitely know what you're talking about - I'm not disputing that. But I fear we are treading into less fact and more opinion - I chose GDP as a standard, and more taxes and welfare in Sweden are definitely more of a subjective measure of economic success. I think we'll have to agree to disagree. The US dollar is the global economic standard because we continue to lead the industrialized world, as we have one of the more conservative governments that let people keep more of what they make and thus have an incredibly productive work force. Innovation happens in the US. I try to look at things objectively but it's difficult sometimes, I'm not an academic and I am proud of my country. ✌

Sudan's economy improved during the last decade too, maybe we should try their model.
