Dammit! My pipes froze
Forums › General Discussion › Dammit! My pipes froze-
Inch of water in the basement. Probably need to replace some sheetrock. Threw all the wet stuff outside to freeze, deal with it tomorrow. Got the wood stoves burning and fans fanning. Broke my glasses. Finally sat down for five minutes and got a cramp. My day sucks.

Time to get out the shop vac! Water in your house sucks.

Sump pump saved me from more damage. And shop vac got a workout today.
I heat with wood with electric backup. But the electric company charges me half price if they can shut it off during peak times. Of course peak times is when it's below zero and I need it most.
I will shut off the water supply from now on. Pipes might still freeze but won't flood. Expensive lesson.

I would suggest on the freezing nights, give each faucet a steady drip. That or put in a recirculation pumpSump pump saved me from more damage. And shop vac got a workout today.

if your going to shut off the supply make sure to drain the pipes too. water trapped in a closed system will still freeze and burst the pipes. look into heat tape if its an exposed area and proper insulation.Sump pump saved me from more damage. And shop vac got a workout today.
