(Figuratively speaking)You see a shirt you like for $97. You borrow $50 from mom and $50 from dad and buy the shirt. You have $3 change, you give one dollar to mom and one dollar to dad and you keep the last dollar for yourself. So now you ow mom and dad $49 each 49+49=98+1( one dollar you kept)=99. Where's the last dollar?

ᏞᎾᏞ just a play on words. Ꮜ borrow 100, shirt costs 97, leaving 3 change. Ꮜ give 1 to each parent (2), leaviving Ꮜ with the last dollar.
 100-97=3
 1 mum +1 dad +1 Ꮜ =3

Why would a shirt cost $97?
 That's the real question.

The shirt only cost 97. 1 dollar for you, one for your mom, and one for your dad

Here is my answer from 25 weeks ago. Marilyn wrote: (=•.•=)??
 Hmmm... So
In simple terms.Borrowed from Mom: +50
 Borrowed from Dad: +50
 Total borrowed: +100
 Repaid Mom: -1
 Repaid Dad: -1Total (re)paid: -2 Piad for shirt 97
total kept 1total still owe -98
 -98+-2 =-100
