  If you like technical music (and don't know them yet) you should check out Meshuggah.
  Awesome mathcore, but I guess it's prety much 'musician music'. They really invented an own music style. Future Breed Machine is an oldy but still gets me going.

  Another technical Canadian band I really like is Threat Signal, their first album is the best imo.

  I guess it's a matter of taste or do you judge the musician's technical and songwriting abilities?

  Like amazing drumming, guitar riffs, solos, complex song structure and unique use of time signatures, polyrhythms. To name a few things. And let's not forget that a lot of bands considered to be classic rock are/were considered metal bands. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest...
