The NBA is dumb. Free agents only want to play in the major markets like the Knicks heat and Lakers. Everyone else plays the role of the minor leagues for these big markets.

That's why the NFL is awesome. Anyone, anywhere can be competitive if they're run right. Teams like Arizona or Indianapolis can make a Super Bowl and draw great ratings. In the NBA if it isn't a big market no one cares.
