I have both armpits done. It is a VERY sensitive area with a lot of nerve endings. So anyone who tries to say it doesn't hurt is a liar!! However, pain is a mental state and the body can detach itself from said pain. I have a very high pain tolerance so I was able to deal with it really well. I don't recommend it for people who don't enjoy the pain part of the tattoo experience though....༺☣ℳཞ71ᏤཡℬüᎦ☣༻ wrote:

Just be careful where you walk in California if you have a black star tattoo. It is a gang symbol in Northern California and if it is on the arm or wrist, well, google it to find out :)

Around my bellybutton, don't what to even think what it will look like in 20 years -
I googled it. Black stars on the wrist/forearm means you are homosexual.

But that was in the 1940's-50's.

Go to the In Tattoo Culture of this page.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautical_star
Fourth paragraph down reads:
"The Nautical Star is heavily confused with the Nor-Cal or Northern California Star, depending on geographical location. This tattoo has been affiliated with many Northern California gangs. The only typical variation of the Nor-Cal Star is the color on the left side of each leg of the star. The right side always remains black normally."
I think this is what he was referring to. -

Being that I'm from NorCal, I've grown up around my fair share of both gangs and gay people. The star as a symbol can very loosely represent certain factions, and estrella (star in Spanish) is used as a deragatory term by other gangs, but I've never seen or heard of a star tattoo itself being a gang or gay (or gay gang haha) symbol.
