Moving house in the blazing Aussie sun
Forums › General Discussion › Moving house in the blazing Aussie sun-
Well it's 10:30am, and the fiancé and I are moving into our first house.
"Well that's great!" You might say, and I would agree with you, except for one teeny, tiny detail.
It's already 26 degrees Celsius. That's 79 degrees Fahrenheit.
The forecast for today is a top of 41 degrees (106 degrees F) ...
Can anybody tell me why, WHY must it be so horribly hot? Why must there be no breeze? Why must we be melting as we begin moving house? Please, somebody come put me out of my misery! 😞

Oh man up
-
Because it's Australia! I've heard that place was made to kill you...
-
I'm looking at a foot of snow....quit yer cryin nancy boy! 😜
-
It's 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) today. We will be lucky to see 0 Celsius tomorrow. Could be worse.

Attack the sun's turf and you might make it weaker. I'd also equip some a/c to your newly purchased turf. You may not want to equip a machine gun nest though, as it may alarm your fiancé. A lookout may be justified though.

I just moved back to North Dakota. It was 0F on the day we moved in. That's -18C.
We lived up here for years and love it. It was much too warm in Iowa.
It is not unusual for it to remain below 0 F as a high for weeks in a row. The lows can easily be -40 F. You gotta remember to plug your car in or it won't start in the morning.

Far out. You lot are all bloody ice cubes - I hate the hot but I hate the cold more!
Anyway, it's passed the temp peak for the day (4:35pm), and the thermometer was reading 47 degrees Celsius at about 4:00 ... I'll go convert that and report back lol

117 degrees Fahrenheit. That's bloody hot!

It's a dry heat though! It'd be worse if it was humid! Optimism! Sunshine! Snakes won't come out (they'll hide in your house though)! You don't have to worry about glaciers destroying your lovely new home! :P117 degrees Fahrenheit. That's bloody hot!

Don't be a baby and be happy your not a pale skinned redhead.
Would be half over again as worse 😜😜 -
And this is why I'm spending next Aussie Christmas in Canada and America

Been there, done that, having a beer on your behalf...

It's not always a dry heat, the further north the higher the humidity. I worked on Great Keppel Island 1992/93 and we had +40'C with 90% humidity. I swear you walk out of your room and just want to walk straight back in and have a shower.♠Ƭϋʀғä♠ wrote:

I'll move your stuff for you if you get me out there.

I only have 1 beer in the fridge, and I've gotta drive again later anyway so even if I had more I wouldn't be drinking. It's so saddening (sobs into a glass of soft drink).Been there, done that, having a beer on your behalf...
...Bad Bean, you're right. I'm glad I'm not farther North today - the air gets so wet you gotta swim through the heat waves. It's so sticky if you wake up after 5:00am, your sweat glues your eyes shut for the entire day.
It's so hot that if you step on a sealed road without firefighting boots on, your feet melt down to the ankles. -

So true. Although, this summer we've been getting high 80% to low 90% humidity quite consistently - you always feel dirty. Even inside, with the air conditioner switched on high, it's horrible.🔰࿈Ᏸลอ🔥Ᏸεαη࿈🔰 wrote:

It's too hot to be moving house. I say it is, so it is. I am from south of the border, after all! Haha

Sounds to me like an Arizona summer!
I'll take my Colorado cold winters in place of both!
You can always put on more clothes to warm up.... 😳 -
It's like that here in the summer. And we have 0 degree Fahrenheit winters.
