Not sure what the actual genre is... Emo folk? Alterna-alternative? Folk-bitch-shit? Anyway, I've been strangely into some seriously catchy (but admittedly pussy) rock music lately, and I'm wondering two things: What is the genre actually called? and What other bands/songs also fit that you would recommend?

Here are some examples of the songs/artists I'm talking about:
Of Monsters and Men - Mountain Sound
Phoenix - 1901
Foster the People - (pretty much everything they make is amazing)
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
Death Cab For Cutie - Crooked Teeth (also Soul Meets Body)
The Shins - (everything they do, especially Simple Song)
The Lumineers - Stubborn Love
Florence & The Machine - Dog Days

Hmmm. I grew up in the early 90s when alternative was a thing, and I dont remember it being quite as pussafied as the current crop. I have to listen to Slayer's Raining Blood for at least five minutes of every hour I listed to the music I posted above to offset how much of a pussy I become. I'm going to continue to call it pussy-rock until I find something better. Alternative makes me think of Stone Temple Pilots or Weezer.

Hmmm. They're all signed to major recording labels so I can't really go with indie rock, seeing as theyre not independent and I've heard them all on mainstream radio. I do like MGMT though 👍. They're just a little too emo and whiny for my taste but still a great band - I have that song Kids on my phone.

Also check out Karma Police by them. Thats my favorite!
They're amazingly creative and good musicians.

Sorry bro - I'm not an elitist and not sure why I came across like that - is it because I refer to it as pussy-rock? That's not being an elitist, it's being unable to adequately describe a genre of music. So I call it pussy-rock because it sounds very pussy-ish to me. And I really dig it ✌
