Not just some mayans are alive today but an estimated 7 million! El Salvador,Mexico and Honduras amongst others.

Actually the winning teams captain (or entire team, cant remember) was killed because they believed there was 7 steps to their heaven/god and if you won your game and you were sacrificed, you bi passed those steps and went straight to heaven/god

you sure it was the winning team? i could have sworn it was the other way around, but you could be right. its been awhile since i read about them, and i found the olmecs more interesting, so i might have a jumbled memory of central and South American ancient civilizations.Actually the winning teams captain (or entire team, cant remember) was killed because they believed there was 7 steps to their heaven/god and if you won your game and you were sacrificed, you bi passed those steps and went straight to heaven/god

Aztecs built Machu Pichu in Peru but that is on top of a mountain ridge. No swamp anywhere near it.✰MAΥHΞΜ✰ wrote:

Mayans main city was in Mexico I believe and the land around it is now swamp similar to Ankor Wat in Cambodia.
I am not sure whether these were swamps though when the cities were built.

Yes they built Tenochtelan (Bad Spelling) on a lake near present day Mexico City. It was an amazing city of canals for streets.✰MAΥHΞΜ✰ wrote:

Alright for the ones who didn't pay attention in history, if you are looking at a map of Mexico, Central, and South America, the Aztecs were in west and
central Mexico, the Maya were (and still are) in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico (eastern side) and Belize, and the Inca were in modern day Chili on the west coast of S America.Another fun fact: the Mayans were amazingly advanced in both mathematics an astronomy and they had a more accurate calendar than the Gregorian calendar. They did not have/need a leap year.
-
Mayan pyramids still stand today. The largest and most interesting ones are at Chichen Itza and Uxmal near the modern city of Merida, Mexico.

Most mayans believed today would be the start of a 'new beginning' not the end of the world!
