Does were you come from determine how you will be seen in world?

I used to have a teacher that would tell the class because we were from the south, if we went up north we would be seen as dumb. I've never realy seen this, but my only experience up north is my grandparents house. Is this true?

Nope

No it does not matter. If you try hard, your successful no matter what.
-
Realistically yes. If you come from a bad neighborhood you will be seen different in a good neighborhood and vice versa

👌🎯right on I'm from the south and I really don't see how that will affect my future it's me who decides that ✊No it does not matter. If you try hard, your successful no matter what.

The divide between the north and the south is viewed as the north is the industrial part of America versus the south being the agricultural part of America. It was like that way for quite some time and as you can imagine usually children growing up on a farm would drop out of school if they ever went in the first place to help with the farm. Although it isn't true today, looking outside the major cities in the south you can see a large drop off into more of a rural environment. Looking at the north, the drop off from major cities such as Chicago, Detroit, NYC, etc. does not go directly to rural, instead going into smaller cities such as Pittsburg and stays suburban for the most part. Basically, more people = more schools, more schools = more smarts, more smarts = more industry, that's why northerners have received more "advanced" educations although the gap has shrunk to almost unnoticeable levels.

In short, nobody will find you stupid unless you're legitimately stupid and in that case I really didn't have to explain any of this, did I?

not true. you'll be seen as dumb no matter where you go😜

It's practically impossible to fit into all walks of life. There are people who will judge based on regional accents and have pre defined ideas of people because of geographical stereotypes. I can't comment specifically on north and south USA, but even in a country as small as the UK, this happens. Not just north and south either, on a town to town, county to county level.
What matters is how you represent yourself in the world, not what stereotype you may fall under.

Take this example, if you will. My youngest brother grew up in an inner city neighborhood and recently moved to a much quieter suburban environment. Kids at school would give him a hard time trying to see how tough he was. My brother has a mild case of aspbergers(sp) and didn't want to fight. But the kids in his new school had the assumption that all inner city kids are "gangsta" and wanna fight all the time.

True...the world we live In is dominated by stereotypes! Regardless of how successful u are or are not you can be perceived as something your not just because of the way you look or sound, or present urself over a short period of time!!

If you've ever lived in Oakland, I know for a fact you've shot at least 2 people minimum. 😜

No shoes, no shirt,no problems! If someone makes fun of you for what you look like or where you're from, you laugh in their face. Tell them the only reason they are making fun of you is because they are jealous that your life is happier than theirs. Shrug words off. It's all they'll ever be. Just words. If someone talks bad about you it won't matter in ten years so don't sweat it.

It sounds like your teacher had a bad experience. I think this remains true in certain zip codes, especially if your accent is especially thick and/or you use nonstandard English, but much less so than previously. But really, why would you care about the opinions of people who are so shallow they'd judge you by where you grew up instead of who you are and what you can contribute?I used to have a teacher that would tell the class because we were from the south, if we went up north we would be seen as dumb. If this is worrying you, though, you can start by making a good impression through your written communication. See edits above. 😉I used to have a teacher that would tell the class that because we were from the South, if we went up north we would be seen as dumb. I've never really seen this, but my only experience up north is my grandparents' house. Is this true?

Unfortunately, people see me as a dumb inbred hick. Even though I'm nowhere near like that.

North or south it doesn't matter, you're American so the rest of the world sees you differently... Stereotypically speaking. But that's all it is, stereotyping. Nobody is better than anyone, just some people have narrow minds which makes them ignorant.
-
It doesn't determine but it does influence a lot about you. People are individuals, if you think like one, you will be viewed as one. If you're a generic sheep, people will bahhhh at you.
