I totally forgot about this day...
This day is when roughly 3,000 men and women, inservice or the civilians, who died in the devastating surprise attack and I never lived then but I thank them for their service and their brothers and sisters who fought on the side lines, including their European or other ethnic background allies. And also the people in arms in our service to this day. All countries deserve their forces being respected for their service but I can only truly appreciate the country I am from but for the other civilians of other countries, give your servicemen and servicewomen the honor they deserve and I'll honor mine on this day dedicated for the service people of my country. Many work hard and the differences between us is built into everything we are but sometimes we need to put them aside to understand we all all still human and share this great planet.

I did not want to read this right now. It's my fiancé's birthday, and our 6 month anniversary today.
Suddenly my day has a dark cloud over it.

Good thing they did. On this past September 11, I saw so many stores and businesses with their flags not at half staff. It's was very disrespectful and disgraceful. Even McDonald's rose their flag to half staff that day...they were practically te only ones!I saw a bank with its flag half up so I found out when I went inside that it was Pearl Harbor Day.

That's only because the McDonalds employees get winded halfway through the flag raising and give up.Turf🐑Warrior wrote:

We have Anzac day to honour our many Anzacs who died in the second world war, but we rarely see flags at half mast for it.

The Flag of Australia is flown half-mast in Australia:
•On the death of the Sovereign – from the time of announcement of the death up to and including the funeral. On the day the accession of the new Sovereign is proclaimed, it is customary to raise the flag to the peak from 11 a.m.
•On the death of a member of a royal family.
•On the death of the Governor-General or a former Governor-General.
•On the death of a distinguished Australian citizen. Flags in any locality may be flown at half-mast on the death of a notable local citizen or on the day, or part of the day, of their funeral. ••Recent examples include the death of naturalist Steve Irwin, actor Heath Ledger and esteemed international opera singer Dame Joan Sutherland. -
•On the death of the head of state of another country with which Australia has diplomatic relations – the flag would be flown on the day of the funeral.
•On ANZAC day the flag is flown half-mast until noon.
•On Remembrance Day flags are flown at peak till 10:30 am, at half-staff from 10:30am to 11:03am, then at peak the remainder of the day.Point is, it's not an annual thing as a rule - otherwise flags at half-mast would be more common than at peak.

To be honest, all we did was keep the Germans off Russia and Britain. Russia ended up killing 20 times the Axis forces that all the other allies combined did. Japan screwed the Axis because they brought an isolated party into the mix. If Germany had finished Britain, then worked with Japan and Italy on Russia, we would be the last ones left.♠Ƭϋʀғä♠ wrote:

America vs. The Axes.
With our army at the time, we wouldve been crushed. Even with nukes.

Im a history geek. Also - the Russians killed so many Germans because the Germans invaded Russia, and the invasion lasted into the winter. Hence the cliche, you don't fight a land war with Russia in the winter.

Germany failed to successfully take Russia because they invaded a couple months later than the scheduled date. These couple months were spent invading Greece and Yugoslavia, because Hitler had to bail out Mussolini when his invasion failed. So then, by the time they reached Moscow, it was already the middle of winter. The Russians probably could have kept the Germans off of them without American assistance.ه☆ⓊƘ☆ه wrote:
