This has been happening for a while under the NSA (Google "Room 641A" to learn about AT&T's San Francisco office that was dedicated to assist NSA spying, exposed by an NSA whistleblower). But now you won't have to be an alleged terrorist.I'm sure if they wanted too, they could get it anyway, so why bother taking it to the next step..?
What this law does is codify it as national policy for dozens of other agencies. Now instead of requiring national security-level importance (i.e. impending terrorist attack etc), many garden-variety Federal agencies will be officially permitted to harvest citizens' online data without a warrant.

+1 nick

Please get it done my American friends! If it passes, no doubt Australia will quickly follow suit.

Might I state that, to the best of my knowledge, the only internet censorship that Australia has in place is child pornography sites and possibly some sites describing how to create bombs/weaponry.💀༄्ཧ़ཀंེབ།༨ཛყ༄💀 wrote:

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸'mericaAny person in their right mind doesn't want to look at child porn anyway, so that's cool. As far as making bombs is concerned, ... well, how was dynamite invented? I believe the govt. needs to lay off there.
Anyway, I'm way off topic.
Apologies, Nick! ✌

I always wondered what the NSA thinks when they get alerted to keywords in one of our crews battle planning PAL rooms or TW pm chatter. Just the verbiage alone probably gets us a top spot on terrorist watch lists :) ... In any case, nice the bill didn't pass. Save our taxpayer dollars for some other mundane bill.

Is this really the proper forum to share your political opinions as a developer? I agree this is kinda an attempt to further errode the constitution but as a developer I find sharing this in the manner in which was chosen to be highly inappropriate. In my opinion it is understandable for users to share/debate political views but game designers should stay away from such sensitive issues as politics. Happy turfing friends and always remember to ask questions and seek your own answers.Perhaps instead of.telling people what to do, you should just provide the information and let them decide. A bit unprofessional.

Regardless of what side you might take on this issue, the outcome will deeply affect Turf Wars and pretty much any other online service you use, IMHO negatively.
You're welcome to disagree, but being an affected business owner doesn't automatically make your opinion "inappropriate". Quite the contrary.

I will contact them too. Thanks Nick

Ok I understand your view point as a person/organization who is directly effected but it is not a developers job to enforce his or her belief system but i understand it might be nice to bring the issue to the forefront but let people decide there own remedy actions rather then impose your will upon them. This is the very foundation of the "free" society you are trying to "protect". Thank you very much for bring this to the attention of people but let it end there. He also has the "freedom" to speak his mind as a dev if he wants to. If you or others don't like it then you have the "freedom" to go find another game.
Plus, you aren't even an American so your opinion on this law is completely irrelevant anyway.
-
Oh and as a dev yourself, if you don't think it appropriate to educate your customers in this manner, then don't do it. You have no authority to tell other devs how to run their business. Try focusing on your own business concerns instead.

Wow. What an interesting thread. Where was I when this was posted.. 👀

Only just seen this. Not heard anything about it, but then again I don't keep up with my own countries affairs.
What has/hasn't happened? How will it effect people who aren't American, like myself?

It's amazing. Players say they wish nick participated in the forums more like he used to, then he gets blasted when he expresses an opinion on something. 😒
