Just wondering what other people thought,I'm not a hardcore gamer but I'm thinking about getting back into it along with my kids.

Kids? Maybe kinect ;) otherwise I would reccomend black ops 2 or the new assassins creed :3

What type of games are you into. Sports FPS RPG or Racing.

If you like for challenges go for demon souls. If you like some challenging split screen go for call of duty 2. My friends and I still play, but i digress. for mindless killing id recomend any game like the Halo/Call of Duty. (But be warned it can cause untolds amount of rage)
Lastly for Rpg games i will suggest the Fallout series and the oblivion series (elder scrolls and what not). I reccomend these games out of my experences from them.

If you enjoy a series, I recommend mass effect. It's almost like a movie. Very interesting.

Mortal kombat, COD not commended for certain kids ( in complication with rage ) halo 4 Battlefield, red dead redemption, NOT GTA ( too realistic for kids ) and my best advice for a good kids game: Fable

Battlefield 3 seems to be cool.
I ordered it and am getting it today.
My most played game (by far) is Fifa 13.

Dead space 1 and 2,borderlands 1 and 2 and obviously all the halos.Black ops 2 campaign is terrible and short all the money went on online multiplayer
