A little backstory first: about 5 or 6 years ago my cousin tragically died when he was run over by a train at the young age of 21. My aunt constantly grieves about it and hates talking about it.

Well some asshole fucking signed him up for some loan refinancing thing. His address, phone number, everything. Now all day she gets all these fucking calls every other hour asking for him and asking who he is voting for. It's hard enough for my aunt to accept his death let alone have to tell people to stop calling because he is dead, and then gets called back half an hour later!!

Fucking sick.

Doesn't sound like a prank. It sounds like identity theft. They could be trying to establish a history so they can get loans/credit cards in his name.

I agree I don't think it's a prank, but it's probably not identity theft. Maybe he gave his number to the wrong person and they sold it to telemarketers. Either way, it is really sad though

I hate telemarketers. People get paid to harass you on the phone. You ask them to stop calling but they still do. They have no respect either and this just adds to my hate for them

When he was alive some of his friends were really shady and I think some were involved with various drugs. Some people in the comments (she posted this on Facebook) are suggesting that maybe one of his "friends" did this.

Register her number on "do not call list" that will cut down the volume if calls she was receiving also try and run free credit report that will show any recent activities if there was any

This is disturbing. I have heard that a "technique" used by identity thieves is to find one from a person that is deceased. I they find this person(s). If and when, don't lose your head, be smart. 🙏

In addition, your aunt can lock your cousins credit by calling the three credit reporting bureaus: transunion, equifax, and experian. This is free to do and no more credit will be issued in his name. Should cut down on most identity theft worries.
