My car has an anti-decapitation hook
Forums › General Discussion › My car has an anti-decapitation hook-
It's an '81 volkswagen rabbit. Some guys like to strip off as much weight as possible. One part often removed is the rain tray inside the engine compartment. I asked around if this was a good idea or not and was told that removing the rain tray also removes the anti-decapitation hook. It's a metal hook that engages the hood when closed. In case of a front end collision it prevents the hood from coming up and through the windshield decapitating the driver. I decided to keep it in place.

I have the "L" model, top of the line. (well as top as a cheap 1980s econobox can get anyway) I wonder if the base units came equipped with the anti-decapitation hook.
