Going to visit concentration camp Dachau

Going to visit Dachau November 4th.
Chose this camp because it seems to be really impressive.
Looking forward to it, but I'm sure it's going to be a very quiet 7 hr drive back home.Anybody here visited Dachau or another camp?

Yes. Very disturbing to look at the exhibits and realize what they represent happened all around where you're standing. It's a bit surreal. Every time you see a reference to the camps, you'll flash back to actually being in one. For solemnity, it's on par with looking at the fields of crosses at Normandy.

Yeah, have been in Normandie too. Unbelievable all the craters there. Hard to imagine what happened there.
Also visited a lot of places in the Belgian Ardennes since its close to where I live. Was in all places mentioned in Band of Brothers 😊
But I'm sure Dachau is going to be the most impressive of all. -
Impressive? What do you mean by that?
And visiting concentration camps is a very moving experience. -
I just read the word "Belgian" and immeadiatly thought of waffles

I have been on the U.S.S Arizona memorial. It's a moving moment being on a spot where over 1000 of your countrymen died in less than a second.

I visited the Holocaust Museum in D.C. it was heartbreaking. You read and watch movies on what happened but to see it is different. As in seeing the actual pictures, actually footage etc. There is no words and the experience will forever stay with me.

In Margraten - Netherlands, 15 min drive from where I live is a US WWII cemetary and memorial. 8300 US soldiers are buried there. Really makes you feel humble seeing all those 8300 white crosses and 1750 names of the soldiers who's bidies were never found on the monument.

Exactly the reason why I think everybody should have the experience of seeing and realizing the horror that went on. This can never ever happen again. -
I, along side some friends are planning a trip to Auschwitz in Poland.
I live 2 hours away from Bergen Belsen.
But it small compared to Auschwitz and was flattened by the ally's after the war.History amazes me allot.
Literally a 10 minute drive from my house is where Herman Göring used to operate his air force (Luftwaffe).

Im from belgium, and as a 12-14 year old, my mom took me to "het fort van breemdonk" now, compared to auswich, bergen belsen, treblinka,Dachau, sobibor, this might seem to be like a minor camp. But trust me, i will never forget the experience i went trough when i was there.
2 weeks later, my mom gave me a book called "het boek der kampen" books of camps, wich is written by an actual survivor of the holocaust.
When i think back about certain stories in that book, i still get disgusted. People are animals...
And ronster, prepare to see and experience things that will horrify you mate.
Im sure you will never forget what you will see and feel there. -
Auschwitz will probably next, but thats a bit too far by car.
People are animals. True. You see it happening right now in Syria again 😞
And sure I'll be horrified. I'm certain my gf will walk around crying and I'm not sure my eyes stay dry tbh...
My son is now 3 and not joining us on the trip. But when he's old enough I want to show him these things too.

Being the great-grandson of a German Jew, I've lost a lot of family in the camps. Some of them were executed in Dachau. Can you leave a rose for my family that died by the hands of the nazis?
