I just bought the IPhone 5 an I can't connect with iTunes it's saying I need the latest version but when I download it it won't install, it says I need Mac OS X 10.7. My MacBook Pro is is still in version 10.5.8, how can I fix this

You need to upgrade your OS to go beyond iTunes 10.6.3 according to Wikipedia.

Click on App Store on macbook and purchase latest operating system from apple. It will download then install

Then maybe don't use iTunes. Use the cloud to backup your data and keep track of your purchases.
