Any Model Rail enthusiasts?
Forums › General Discussion › Any Model Rail enthusiasts?-
I am a model train collector. A hobby that gives me much pleasure. The building, designing and running of the diorama allows me to escape (apart from TW).I focus mainly on British steam/Irish rail and some Spanish rail.I would be interested to know if there there are more amongst you. My hobby began when my good parents bought me a Deltic 55 St.Paddy over 30 years ago.My Setup is OO/HO gauge.

Apparently not!
I used to work with a guy who did the model train thing. It's incredible the amount of time and detail people put into their setups, as well as what's on those tiny little rail cars. He would bring his model train magazines to work and I looked over them. I had no idea groups of people got together and operated their yards together, even down to having paper slips with the cargo delivery manifests! -
My wife has a friend from middle school who's dad also does that stuff, seems cool

I have dabbled with OO in the past. I just lack the commitment and space to build a proper layout. I'm hoping to convert my loft space in the future, so maybe my kids will spur me on, my 13 year old son is a big train fan, big and small.

Expensive hobby😁

I have always been fascinated by model trains and when people have made whole landscapes.
My friends dad had an amazing set up which he invested many years of work.
The train I personally always wanted was the German ICE train.
A beauty and must have for all collectors. If you have a great setup V, post links to some pictures :-)

My brother did it, It seems like alot fun. However that seems like it would take up a lot of room so ill stick with guns and gaming.

I am I've been saving up to make my own set that comes down on a platform from my garage ceiling powered by the garage door motor 😜 I'm getting there

Yes it is.I try to build what I can from scratch.I use DCC as opposed to analogue. Allows you to run several at once and control the sound/ lights/speed options. I live in Spain and miss my home town in Ireland so built my town;right down to the family homestead and all the areas that I remember fondly. The cinema, church,Old shops and a few pubs of course where I used to drink and had painted murals within.Expensive hobby😁

Just getting back into it, HO and N. Back in the dark ages I had a 24' x 20' HO layout, half industrial/city half long haul Midwest terrain.

Nice. Would like to get into an American setup also. N gauge allows you to do so much in smaller spaces.Problem is that I have invested so much into OO/HO already.Yes,A big American engine would be nice indeed. Check out Murphy's models,Viper, if you get a chance. All Irish trains but beautiful models and so well crafted.Just getting back into it, HO and N. You mean train sets?

I'll do that, been tinkering with the idea for either an N or maybe a Z scale European layout. There is NO comparison for european designed train stations, so much more character in their construction.🔥⌖ Viper ⌖🔥 wrote:

Z scale! Nice but the range is a little limited here though it is improving. The japanese have made some nice metro trains for the inner city!
What about those G behemoths? A real luxury and you could set it up outdoors providing you had the space. In fact, if I could get away with it I'd have a depot indoors and "dynamite"a tunnel through the exterior wall! But my wife either hobble or kill me;don't have that space; would end up having the option of boot leather or cabbage soup everyday on the menu and all for a beauty, haha. I have a distant cousin in Longisland,New York who has such a thing (haven't noticed any strange gait) and it is impressive.
The work on your project,V,would be rewarding.
