The noob problem

War is more than building and destroying. Just as in real life you can't go to war without thinking of the endgame of how we can become peaceful after. War is half fighting and half politics. This is the difference between senior experienced players and noobs in this game. They haven't learned to play politics and we have forgotten what it's like to be new. Recently I've been very irritated at a few alliances. Turns out it was the new players causing the problems. Joining an alliance for them amplifies their lack of politics..after all why be civil if you have a crew to solve your problems.

Senior players hate to be told off by new players just as I'm sure new players being weaker hate feeling threatened. Alliances you gotta put them in check once in a while. Senior players need to be more understanding of weaker players..and new players need to learn politics. (steps off the soapbox)

Well said sir!!!

I agree up to a point, I'm still a "newb" when it comes to time played. I grasped the game pretty fast, at least it's core mechanics, but it took a few PM's from other players and a smackdown or two to learn some of the intricacies that people who have played it longer take for granted.

Attacking peoples turf for example, I thought it was okay. Another way to get exp and cash, till I got "persuaded" (by Soul none the less!) that unless you're declaring war that just isn't done. I think he handled it just right, he got my attention and when I asked "can we be friends? Lol" he explained how it was.

So Red, I'm right there with you man. If we all want more people to play, and stick around, I think we need to take the time to make sure that happens.

And I agree that hiding under a crew is not a good way for a new player to grow, at all...

Thanks all for the comments. It won't change anything..but it's something I've noticed recently.

I have been playing games like this for the better part of 12 years and what you point out seems to be all too common in every game I've ever played. I'm afraid it will always be a problem as long as there are veterans with elitist attitudes that don't show "newbs" the ropes. It is also for this se reason that many new players don't like to ask questions for fear of being labled a "newb". One thing that I can say, Davey, Soul and others here in ECS have been great about answering all questions that I ever had about the game long before they accepted me into their family. Cont-----▶

Having said the above, I realize my limitations when it comes to politics, so at that time I find it better to just keep my mouth shut and defer to a mediator. However, there will always be that one person that you just can't reason with and force must used. I think that if more vets would take the time to help newer players understand this, this and all games would be better for all players involved.

My turf gets attacked by newbs on an almost daily basis. I either ignore them because they don't don't know better and are trying to figure the game out or, if it's happening on a regular basis, I'll engage them and explain the attack protocols.
