Quick update

Hi,
Been a while so figured I would give a quick update on my wife and answer any questions people that are going through similar issues themselves or with family might have.
Currently am sitting in an eye surgeons waiting room. Karen starting experiencing blindness in one eye when she was crying so much after bandit died and they just let me know she needs surgery to reattach a retina in that eye right NOW...so, guess I will learn more on that and update that later. She seems to be taking the news well...before last year she would have freaked out with severe panic attacks.
This news is freaking me out a bit so will keep this really short for now. Summary...
1) Karen broke her back in a fall at a hospital last year. T12 fracture. Couldn't operate because of failing liver so took 3 months to heal..2 months hospital bed, 1 month home care. Currently just getting injections to deal with back pain.

2) right after she got out of the back brace, she fell and broke her hip. Then we found out that failing liver causes severe osteperosis. 50% survival rate surgery but now she can set off airport detectors and smile about it. No complications other than hip pain in other hip which she gets shots for still.
3) the day she was supposed to have stitches removed from her hip surgery she got a new liver. Over a month in the hospital after that for complications and then hospital rehab and 3 months of home rehab to learn to walk again
4) neuropathy in hands...turned out to be mostly carpal tunnel due I guess to loss of all muscles and rehab. Still getting shots and looking toward surgery for that.
Seems like a lot, but liver is still doing good and she can walk fine now. Driving...well, that is a different matter -
Damn man, sorry she is going through this. Hope all goes well for her and you.

That's extremely sad. Hope everything goes better for her and you.

Reason I am posting this is that I know others out there are experiencing some of these issues at some level or another...good odds because karen had such a broad spectrum of issues to experience in a short time and even more that we dealt with in the years befor last year...and there are so damned many things we didn't discover until we experienced them first hand that I realized afterwards it would have been nicer to just ask questions and learn the stuff before it blindsided us.

We are here for you man. When real life steps in, your online persona can and should be put to the side. To come here and spill your heart out is a brave thing. I hope that all goes well for you and your wife.

damn! that's a rough year. Good luck to both of you.
-
Thanks for checking in xam. Sending positive thoughts your way. Good luck to you both.
-
Damn.

Thanks. Learned something new today...they can repair detaching retinas using lasers when they catch it early enough...Karen said it was like watching a light show. Took maybe 5-10 minutes of actual surgery. Followup surgeries will involve cutting though. Ick.

Sorry, xambler. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both. Sounds like the initial eye surgery went well. Hang in there!

I'll be praying for your wife.
