I used to be in a geocaching group called club midnight. Logged 5000 caches found in 1 year. However, life got in the way and we haven't been out for the past few years.

Isnt that when people leave things somewhere for you to find? Like an online treasure hunt?

It's actually really fun. Been to some really cool locations and experienced awesome things. Two faves were a cache half a mile through storm sewers and one on top of a two hundred foot fire observation tower.Primo Loco wrote:
It's actually a real life treasure hunt. Sometimes the treasure is pretty cool, too. You use GPS to find the treasure, and then sign your name and take the treasure, replacing it with something of your own. The only online part is getting the coordinates.Isnt that when people leave things somewhere for you to find? Like an online treasure hunt?

I really wanted to start doing this just to see what Is out there

Present. It's fun, outdoors, and can take some skill/luck. What's not to like?
My favorite one was outside of Ft. Riley, KS. It was a night course in the woods, and only gave you the starting point. Once you found it, you had to turn around shining your flashlight until you saw a reflection, and that reflection was the next point. Then you had to go there and repeat until you found the cache.

Most I've found still had rpthe paper in it, but I can log it from the website or the app.Primo Loco wrote:
Yep. There's a few different websites that have caches listed. And I think now you sign the log for finding a cache online, instead of on paper.★Λubergine★ wrote:

There are free apps that use your gps to find stuff close to your location. Search the app store till you find one that works for you.

What's the best treasure you've got out of a cache?
I imagine there all pretty shit. Like a clipper lighter left by some stoner or a Taylor swift cd left by a 13 year old girl! -

That sounds like a bad ass multi. Most of my multis had either riddles to figure out the next location or complex math equations to figure out the next set of coordinates.Present. It's fun, outdoors, and can take some skill/luck. What's not to like?

Did it once ... The people before us moved everything 😒

We were split into two patrols. One hid the cache, the other found it. When it was my patrol's turn to hide it, we placed it UNDER a dock...No one could get to it without getting soaked.. 😝

I do it. It's a blast. Gives me incentive to go for a run when I have some free time. (very rarely :))
-
My kids and I do it. They love finding the treasured and figuring out where it is hidden.
-
I've done it a few times. It's really fun when u find one far from home.

I'm ecstatic to see so many people participate. It's a great activity
