1984

I just finished reading 1984. The ending of the book surprised me, but The author meant to end the book that way and that's why it's so famous.
What are your views on the book?

I haven't read it, but I've heard it's very good. I'll probably read it soon.

Neither one is any good. The two party system is rigged and flawed. All they have to do is talk a little different than one another and people think there is a difference between the two parties. All to make people think they have a choice. With 40+% of people being on government assistance, and another portion or people who are illegals thinking they will get everything and not be a citizen..... I think we know which way the vote will swing for the next 4 years. This entitlement mentality that people have will bring us all down. They wont be happy until we are at the same level with other third world countries around the world. Everybody should be preparing for the bad and hoping.....praying for the best.

1984's end was to show that once u let a govt get to that point it's too late to effectively resist. The only way to resist is to never let it get there... Unfortunately, we obviously failed to act on that warning.

They should make it a necessity to read this in every school. To enlighten people about the fact that the gov. Going police state is not just some crazy conspiracy theory.

I fully agree with you. Children need to be educated in reality. Where I live, in Canada- It is nessecary to read, it's very good, only too many people dont read it. Education doesnt really mean anything... The whole country could know what 1984 stands for and it would change nothing. Animal farm is anotehr great book that is a warning of how a govt turns into 1984 and why no one stops it. We are already at a point where its too late to turn back. Just live your life to the fullest and dont worry about it because the battle was lost over 50 years ago

Indeed. Animal farm is like a simpler 1984 and the government practically quotes it.Education doesnt really mean anything... I.e. in the book the leader controls the people by saying surely they wouldn't want jones (their old farmer) back.
Today, the government will pass an outrageous bill because when people oppose it, it's suddenly to protect us from terrorists. -
I think of it more as a prequel. ( obv different universes and analogies but it ideologically fits). Animal farm shows how to set up big brother eg. Small gradual changes to the manifesto ( some animals are more equal than others, etcetc), propaganda, demonized common enemy, ingroup-outgroup logic etc; 1984 shows how hopeless it is once youve crossed the critical point.
