I have a comment to make regarding this war. I've watched it from the outset, from Mysteries camp and have gotten involved on her behalf as of late, just to state where I come from. A lot of talk has gone on about whether or not those opposing mystery should or should not put out the terms of surrender for scrutiny. I would like to point out, due to the high profile of this war (i.e. multiple factions that include influential players and the length of this war) that many people are watching this war, referred to earlier as "epic". There is another perspective that has failed to surface.
The fact that the opposition hasn't explained itself is setting a dangerous precident. A small war to make a point while reasons remain anonymous? Okay, but at what point does it stop? Countries do not go to war without reason (It is obvious this game is no where near as serious) I merely point out the fact that there needs to be some accountability to the players that have the power to affect how the vast majority of us play
-
We all care otherwise we wouldn't be here. We all have stake in this war, small or large. The way in which it is fought and the outcome effects us all. This war goes beyond Mystery in that it sets a precident that one does not need a reason to launch a large scale war or be held accountable. I say we deserve to make our own judgements as a community of people coming together to enjoy this game.
We are continually told about the terms of surrender being revamped without agreement. We are told there are reasons for this war. We are all to some degree controlled by the more powerful interacting in this war. The powerful make the rules we must abide by; therefore, accountability is crucial, otherwise where does it stop and what precident is set? At what point does this become a game you will not want to play, lest you be bullied without reason. (I ask that you dissect my reasoning behind the words and to not find flaws in the wordings themselves otherwise this argument will be lost)

This is a war game. No reasons need to be given to attack someone’s turf. That is the very nature of this game. Whether it be 1 turf or 1000 turf, that’s what happens in a fighting game. Anyone who feels that they are OWED an explanation as to why they are losing turf to anyone needs to reevaluate if this is the right medium of entertainment for them. It has been my personal experience that the majority of time, most parties will have open dialogue in regards to hostile actions. That doesn’t mean that it is required though. No matter how it looks to all the speculators in the peanut gallery, I can assure you that Mystery, during these negotiations, has been shown far more leniency, far more courtesy & been handled with kid gloves significantly more so than most in this game would have been. She has been offered countless opportunities to get answers & come to a resolution with multiple players acting on her behalf both as representatives for her and as intermediaries for both sides.
-
She has failed to cooperate or contribute towards finding acceptable closure the majority of the time.
Instead, she chooses to focus on getting exact & specific minutia of details in regards to why ANYONE would take hostile actions against her. She feels that this stuff is owed to her. Despite the fact that SHE was the one (in the beginning) looking for an end to the aggression towards her weeks ago, she feels she should incur no penalty/punitive ramifications due to a cease fire. Countless neutral & unbiased players have worked with her from many angles both on & off the map to get this wrapped up, only to end up at the exact same end point each & every time. When asked to make counter offers to the terms provided, very seldom has she followed through and falls back on the assumption that the other side would not accept it anyway. -
This is not a Mystery bashing thread & should not be taken as such. It is not my impression that Mystery is purposely sabotaging negotiations and I definitely do not wish to portray her in that light. There have been many instances during these negotiations in which the attacking sides demands have seemed skewed heavily in the in their favor or particularly heavy handed. Unlike Mystery however, the attacking side has continued discussions & kept an open mind, which has resulted in many of the original demands being altered to try & facilitate an ending to this. At this point, I honestly do not think either side is purposely trying to agitate or bait the other into continued battle. I think both sides would be quite content to see this thing end. Unfortunately, I do not foresee this as something that is going to happen anytime soon.

Saba, Bob.
You two should be lawyers.
-
Wow. First off, negotiations haven't been going on for 5 weeks. The war has been going on for 6 weeks & they wouldn't respond to anything for the first several weeks. At most, they've been on & off over 3 weeks.
I've never felt I was OWED an explanation. Of course I'd like one. I always like reasons for things. I also try to learn from things when I can. Without a reason, I can't do that. I get a lot of pm's from people asking about the reasons too. Moreover, I know that Atla has a reason. I can't fathom why anyone would be reluctant to share their reason, even if it's that he just dislikes me; he certainly wouldn't be the only one.
-
Having not been party to more than 1 other large truce negotiation, I can't speak as to whether I've been given more leniency. I will just trust you on that one.
What opportunities to get answers have I been offered? At one point I was shut down for not giving a "correct" answer when I didn't know what the "correct" answer was.
Failed to contribute? After initially not knowing what was expected of me, I started making counteroffers. Those were refused & the same term was restated.
Cont'd...

No, I haven't focused on those things at all. In the beginning, I did ask for Atla's reason. What I initially got was a list of things he's seen other people complain about, from who knows how far back. Some of the things on the list he didn't even understand. They were things that happened 1 time & when I started explaining them, he didn't know what I was talking about. The list thing actually surprised me. I may get upset with people at times (who doesn't), but I've never kept a list of players' supposed wrong-doings. So I got a list of other people's reason's, but not his. I haven't asked about his reason since we all said we were moving on. I accepted that he'd never provide one.Instead, she chooses to focus on getting exact & specific minutia of details in regards to why ANYONE would take hostile actions against her.
-
When I asked for the truce, I had no idea that it would be so punitive. I've also played such that truces are based on strategy & logic. Admittedly, most truces I've made or helped mediate are for small-scale things, but they aren't about being punitive. When I worked on the Houston part of the truce for the first CMS war, the CMS terms did not include punishment. They had the upper hand & certainly could have chosen to do so. However, everything was quite logical. That is the first real truce I have been exposed to & apparently, naively, I assumed that's how others worked.

Mystery I have only one question. How was your day?
-
I think I'm going to read War and Peace. I could possibly get through it quicker.
Honestly Mystery you suggest you have accepted Atla's possible no reason?? I don't think so given it is mentioned in darn near every post. I haven't said anything up until now but I swear it's like Groundhog Day the last 3 or so days in the GD.
-
I have made counteroffers & have continued making counteroffers. I apologize that I'm not extremely creative & not usually quick at coming up with them. Like I said, I really haven't had to do this before, so I don't have the practice that others do.
I was actually caught off-guard when discussions resumed again after the initial deadline. I would not call the other side open-minded for most of the time. Sometimes I had to say things 3 times before they'd be acknowledged. Sometimes, instead of acknowledgement of my counteroffer, the former term was simply repeated.
When discussions did resume the other day, I told you I would keep an open-mind. What happened? The exact same terms I had said no to before were presented again. So I apologize for shutting down a bit after that. But after a week or so of trying to hash through things & then saying no to them, I didn't want to relive the same experience.

The only reason I addressed it after that here was because Saba brought it up. Now I'm mentioning it again because you mentioned it. Lol, if we can all stop discussing it, that works for me.
