🔫 3-Gun 🔫

Has anyone competed in a 3-Gun competition? I'm looking into it right now as we have several in my area each month.
For those of you who don't know, it is basically a "run and gun" shooting competition involving your shotgun, rifle, and pistol.
Any advice/suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Sounds interesting, good luck!

It's a little more exciting than shooting paper at the range.

I have some recommendations , G13 for pistol, something remington for rifle, and AA-12 for shotty

Your the most badass teacher I know

Is it against the rules to use a raygun for the pistol?😜
-
Sounds cool
Only advice I can give is to aim lol -

Three gun shoots are a lot of fun. I used My AR, Rem 870, and Sig.
Get, extra magazines, work on reloading drills, work on smooth exchanges between weapons, don't rush. Smooth is fast and fast is
I have only been to a couple but they are tons of fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I've never competed in a 3 gun. There's a lot to consider. I would go to a couple of matches and start asking questions if some of the competitors seem willing to help or maybe an official can give you a web site to go to for tips. Best of luck man sounds like a lot of fun.

is this somewhat like the last phase of a pentathlon? if so go for it, much more of a challenge

MG is my favorite event. It takes a lot of time and effort (plus some $$$) to get good at it, but it's very rewarding. Your best resource is your fellow competitors. They will let you know what works and what doesn't. The MG community is small and tight, but very friendly.
To ragnar's point, most competitions are won in the reloading and exchanges so practice, practice. -
One more thing, Benelli always goes bang.

Everything I have is tactical except for my Remington 870 Express shotgun which is set up for dove season, not running and gunning.
There is a couple of competitions near by where you run to each station and your gun is there waiting for you on a table but what I really want is where you send your ammo down range, drop your magazines in the dirt, reload, and keeping moving forward.

The reloading and shouldering my weapons with speed is something I have to work on. The range we go to has the 2 second rule between shots and usually a family of inexperienced dumbasses on both sides of me.MG is my favorite event. Depending on where you live, finding a place to practice can be difficult. Most public ranges have too many rules to effectively practice. I have used mostly private ranges and BLM land for practice. Check out uspsa.org there are plenty of contacts in region 4 that should be able to steer you in the right direction.

I have taught gun safety to many of my students and have taken almost every teacher/staff in my building to the range. Just last weekend, I had 3 teachers shooting with me on Saturday and then 7 more on Sunday.༼☣Magna☠Carta☣༽ wrote:

It stands for doesn't exist. Unless I'm behind the times, there is no G13. Did you mean a G17 or a G23? (Both of which I have.)

Mason, you telling me in a gun loving state like Texas there's nowhere to shoot except local ranges? Even out here we have decent outdoor ranges where we can shoot cans and bottles.

I found a few 3-Gun competitions that I'm going to take a look at. Several are in Dallas and a few are in Austin.
I'm just tired of sitting at a bench with my AR and having to shoot at paper. It's almost a disgrace to the gun.

Forget a range, find public land and have fun! There has to some BLM land near you!
