So I wanted to let everyone know that my bf was watching a video on YouTube and in the middle of the video a box popped up and said that he was watching an illegal posted video and that the he had to pay $200 via moneypack to release the video. The popup window was made to look like it was the FBI informing you of your wrong doing. He wasn't worried about this until he realized that this popup had locked down his computer. He called our cable provider and told them what had happened and they said this was not from the FBI, but that it was malware. That he needed to shut his pc down and then restart in safemode. Then he had to restore to a previous date.

Just wanted to see if this happened to anyone else? And to inform everyone of what's out there even if you don't download anything.

(and yes, he knew it wasn't the FBI)
Also- the cable company said this can happen on any video you watch online.

Yes it's not just YouTube tho. Its been in circulation for a while now. Leaves you with no access to your drive and files. I had to do a full restore because of this nasty virus.
