55 years old and no speeding tickets when today I get a picture of my Tahoe in the mail and a camera ticket for going 67 in a 55 mph zone from several weeks ago when I drove up to MN from GA. Freeway driving with the flow of the other traffic. Apologies to the TW residents of this town in iowa the ticket was given in, but you might lose a bunch of turfs tonite...if you live there you can guess the city...even one mile per hour over the limit nets the city a $25 ticket...what a scam.

Fascists

I thought they were made illegal. Must've just been MN that banned them.
-
I have 4 of those bullshit redflex tickects. Haven't paid one. The city is trying to enforce them now with some other fines. Not sure how but currently it's a civil peneties.
-
Hate stuff like that man. I was stopped on the white bar line at a red light in DC. Got a pic saying the sensor picked me up for running the red light, when I was just stopped. Picture shows it all. I was stopped with everyone else. Took it to court and won. Take that DC!
-
Are you in the pic? If not, fight it. They're unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were driving.
-
Christ...started capping turfs in the city and everyone either has upgrades on my turfs or has changed their names so can't figure out who is who. Capped the large upgrades but don't need the small ones so will let anyone there who bothers to read this to remove their upgrades...can ask me nicely later and we can work out a flower arrangement.

Nah. Think I will bypass CR entirely on future trips through Iowa. Sold our house in MN finally Friday so only be going back to MN for yearly Mayo visits for wife anyway. Man, if Atlanta did this the traffic would have to slow down from the normal 80 in 55 zones and that would cause a revolt.

Yes to cedar rapids comment

Anarchist, you can get a ticket in DC for running a yellow light also!!! The cameras dont do that, but the officers can.

Now don't get me wrong, I think 95% of the police/law enforcement are great people, but sometimes you get stopped buy cops that are...undesirables. They give the whole system a bad name.

Those bastards ! It's all about money these days, they say the cameras are used for the safety of the citizens, but really is an exploit ...
-
I knew you were referring to cedar rapids the moment I saw the thread. The traffic cameras suck. Not only are there two on the interstate, of course right in the zone where the speed limit is reduced, there are many others throughout town. As if that were not bad enough there is a truck fitted with cameras and radar they move around town.
-
Whoever posted about money is absolutely right. The placement of the cameras near the speed zones is obviously intended to drive up revenue. The same with the mobile truck.
Supposedly, since the installation of the cameras on the interstate there has been a significant drop on accidents on that stretch of road. I drive it daily. There are still many accidents.
The one thing I notice now is everybody breaking in the vicinity of the camera, then accelerating away once past.

Because it is civil not criminal the reasonable doubt standard does not apply. Oh ya. I don't think I have any upgrades on your turf.
-
They've been done away with here in a lot of areas of Cali. They're easy to fight now. Just go to court and they throw it out most of the time.

A speeding ticket is actually a criminal offense, and as such, it must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Until recently, red light violations were also criminal (not sure why they are civil cases now, as they are still an offense against the public). You may also try the defense using the sixth amendment (the right to confront witnesses against you). Also, in some cases, the tickets are invalid because of the company's arrangement with the police department. They have been determined in some cases to be set to make more money by giving tickets to non-violators. Or you could just ignore it and likely nothing will happen. They are almost impossible to collect on.

Send them a picture of 25 $

Make all turfs that say 67👍 safe. All others burn to the ground.

I will settle for leaving turfs my own color alone....too damned hard to search and destroy in that case. It will become a blue city.Make all turfs that say 67👍 safe. All others burn to the ground.
Btw, normally I don't speed...more so in a Tahoe with a complete body American flag and eagle wrap...but I also don't drive slower than the rest of the traffic...rather chance a ticket than get rear ended by a bad driver.
-
That's why I love where I live other than a few prick cops is all we have to worry about
-
Yet another reason why I don't have my license plate on my bike. We have those damn cameras in Montgomery and they're so sensitive. I've been stopped multiple times by cops and I just tell em that it "broke off". Never been ticketed for it
-
I had a buddy who got a ticket from one of those and the picture was not clear and u could not see the driver, so he argued it and it got dropped.

What determines whether it is criminal or civil is who the offense is against and who the plaintiff is. A speeding ticket is an offense against the public, and the plaintiff is the state, therefore it is criminal. The result is either a fine or jail time. A civil case is an offense against another party, and the plaintiff is the affected party. The result is usually monetary damages.★Λubergine★ wrote:
