Columbo ep:1 a Tw mystery series.
Forums › General Discussion › Columbo ep:1 a Tw mystery series.-
Hello there sir's and mam's I'm lieutenant Columbo with the local police department. Uh and today I wanted to inform you that the department has allowed me to release some of my cases to the public for your entertainment. However, there is one catch to these mysteries, I will only tell you the story of what happened after the crime has taken place. This is where you come in. Your job is to figure out what happened before the crime and tell us why, how and whodunit. Now I know I usually tell you the story that happens before the crime and show you how I solve it, but I thought I would test your investigation skills. So good luck on your investigations...
Oh um one more thing, I will give the answer to the mystery every 24 hours and bring you a new episode weekly. Thank you for your time.

A frightened Frank Lucus picked up the phone and asked for Columbo to come to his house at once. The house was in the darkness except for the light of several candles. As Lucus explained the purpose of the call he went to the fridge and withdrew a tray of ice. Dropping a cube in his scotch he began. "I owed Lance a fair amount of money, and when I got home he was here waiting for me. I had no idea it was him. I've had some bad luck at the track lately and as a result, I haven't paid my peer bill. They cut it off two days ago. When I opened the door I saw a figure... Continued...

...Moving in the moonlight and I panicked. I swung and hit him. He fell back and hit his head on the mantle. He's lying on my living room floor. I think he's dead." Columbo interjected, "You can stop the fabrication right there."
Ok detectives this is where you come in. Whats wrong with Frank's account?
-
How did he know it was him waiting for him when he didn't know who it was?
-
To help you guys out here's what you need to do.
List the suspect you are going to charge:
What was the motive for the crime:
What proves his or her account wrong(if there is one) and why:
What evidence is used to charge the suspect:
Oh one more thing, the first person to get this correct gets a nice spot as a inspector on my code list for a full week. So stay sharp!

He must have lit some candles to see who he just hit. Or so I hope people do that. But this looks so cool! How did he know it was him waiting for him when he didn't know who it was?

Oh I like this thread, a real good one👍 let me think on that one

Frank said he hasn't paid his power bill, and the power was cut off two days ago...yet he has ice cubes? Try again, Frank. Think he might go down for this one.

What's a "peer" bill???

So how did lance get inside Lucas's house?
-
My guess is that Frank invited Lance over, presumably to pay him the money he owed him, and then killed him in cold blood. The power didn't go out. Frank could see him just fine when he killed him.
-
I should say that he invited him over under the premise that he would pay him.
-
Did he use a cell or house phone. He couldn't use a house phone cause the power.

The power was never really out. He faked that. As I said in an earlier post, the fact that he had ice cubes shows that the power had not been cut two days earlier.Did he use a cell or house phone. He couldn't use a house phone cause the power.
But even so, landline phones work without power.

What could the motive be?

Detective ཡ༩ཇाснཇÐ then said, " hey Franky, if your power was turned off two days ago then how come you are enjoying a ice cold shot of scotch?" Frank started to flinch and quickly replied with a nervous tone "Oh um, I... just, came back to the store with this fresh ice for the fo..." Columbo then interrupted, " Then im guessing that you had enough money to fill your fridge for the rest of the month today to right?" Frank quickly replied, "NO! I have had mon... I boug..." frank paused for a moment and finally said, "Lance came in asking for the money, I invited him over asking if he could let it slide. He said no and that he would be back tomorrow to collect payment, I was so angry, I didn't know what I was doing untill it was to late." ཡ༩ཇाснཇÐ replied "Your going downtown Frank. Should have cashed out while you had a chance." Frank was then taken into the station, booked, and is accused for the 1st degree murder of Mr Eric Lance.

Columbo: Good detective work Detective wrenched, I think that I can speak with the chief for your great skills in detection.
1 week later ཀ༩.ཡ༩ཇाснཇÐ was promoted to the rank of inspector.
Frank Was charged and convicted with 1st degree murder and is facing 30 years in prison.
End episode 1. Tune in for next weeks episode!

That was fun. Well done, Lt. Columbo. Looking forward to the next one. (but since I've already received my prize and promotion, I'll keep my guesses to myself until I see someone else make one with which I agree). 🔍

Also I forgot to mention the rules. Just like in clue you only have one chance to correctly apprehend a suspect. If it isn't correct I will send you a message that you are incorrect and the suspect will "lawyer up" and depending on my writing mood the suspect might or might not get away.
Also Rules for the winner are that you can only be senior inspector once a month. After four cases the will be allowed to join the case and get another chance to be on the list. Hope you all enjoyed this and hope to see you all next week on Columbo: a Turf wars mystery series.

@taliben I will include important facts like that. I don't want to confuse you all by leaving out important details. But even so it can't be cold in the fridge even if it was 20°f.
