💻Laptop Suggestions❔

For those of you who are technological geniuses or just know a ton about laptops, I'm asking for YOUR help! I need some help in choosing a laptop. PC only, no Macs. Thanks.
So, I'm going to college, and I would like suggestions on what to pick. I need an i7 processor and the ability to have a designated graphics card. I'll be running AutoCAD and I'd rather not have my laptop crash every couple seconds because it's bogged down. Anything around $1000 is ok, I already know I'll be spending around that. I don't need a $2000 Alienware gaming pc laptop, so nothing crazy.
Thanks again guys!

At work We run auto cad and several, several rockwell bundles all over wireless with $500 HP laptops just fine. Save some $ for beer

I know you don't want to hear about macs, but I have autocad on my Mac and iPad, works great on both, and syncs over the cloud

Forget laptops! Get a desktop. You get more bang for your buck, plus if you get a kickass screen you can use it as your tv too
-
You need more ram for it not to crash and try get an sad hdd to store autocad which will improve the speed also. So 6gb ram might even do you. For 1000 you will easily find what you want.

Desktops are not practical at all in college. Will need a laptop for sure unless you plan on never leaving your cramped dorm room ...

Also I know you don't want to hear about Macs but you can dual boot windows on it and it's usually much faster and much more stable than an equivalent PC.. That being said I'd suggest looking at vizio's new line up or even samsungs if you're looking for a small powerful computer at around 1000 dollars

If you're running AutoCAD check and see what ASUS laptops are out now. We run seismic software and they make some nice 64-bit laptops (with 8-gig mem capable of course...got to have that and the best chip you can afford). I've had mine for three years and it's just never quit. I've replaced the hard drive (bigger) and had to contact support once...they were...better than HP or Dell 😁...which is still better. And in this same timeframe we've had an HP lappie of roughly equivalent capability do some unspeakable things (😡...then it died). Dell has some nice lappies out, but I haven't seen as nice a display as I've got on my ASUS.
Depending on what you're working on and how big the files are, you may want to look into some external storage. Store it under your pillow. Back-up is your friend.

HP Pavilion g7
Got mine around a year ago and it still runs like new. Great for mild gaming

I've decided to get the ASUS G75VW. I'm getting 16gig of ram too. Can't wait (comes with xbox 😝!).

I have an asus N series with an i7 processor, it only set me back a grand and it is amazing

Get the MBP before the latest one... (without retna)
The new MBP are great and all but you can't add RAM you can't swap the hard drive, and you can't replace the battery. It's like a disposable laptop. Not cool in my opinion. So grab the 15" 2011 model with the lowest RAM and smallest HD, but the good video card, then buy 8GB of RAM and a nice SSD and install urself
PS- I'm a heavy heavy heavy computer user and I have a 17" MBP with a core i7 8GB RAM and a regular mechanical hard drive and it handles everything I throw at it... Running two VMs, a MAMP server, Photoshop, Illustrator, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Hamdbrake, iTunes, my editor of choice, plus Mail pulling from Exchange, and I run a few Ruby gems all day to automate things. My computer should be begging for mercy but there is almost no lag at all... In fact the only time I get lag is when I switch to Mail and that is due to Microsoft's Exchange not playing nicely with Apple Mail.
