Got my iPod when I was 14. Saved 2 years worth of allowance and birthday money to buy this iPod.
At first look, I could appear spoilt because I'm holding a iPod touch when they were fairly new.Don't judge a book by its cover.

When you say oh they have an iPhone or smart phone at that age and when I was that he I only had this remember that technology has changed I'm sure if I phones were around in our childhood we'd all want one too I remember getting a flip phone that the phone didn't work on but it was the best thing you could have cause it was the latest in technology

IMO the toy or technology you give a child should be age appropriate. An iPhone with open access to the Internet is not safe for a 7 year old to use un monitored. My children don't get phones till they are 15 because they have no real need for it. As a child until they are 15 they are never at anytime without adult supervision. I don't have a problem with a child using the technology as long as its under adult supervision.

My other son uses a tablet for communication at school and at home. And he can use my iPad like its an extension of his own hands. 😂 He could give two rips but he's had a phone since birth in his back pack for medical emergencies. The advantage to an iPhone over iPod for my other son is that it would do data when we were away from our network or public wifi. So he can read about more dino's...
And so far, the only person around here breaking all this crap...is me.😝

I agree. I monitor my seven year old closely on his iPod. Usually this isn't hard, though, because he's so dang excited he's screaming, "BRACHIOSAURUS IS AS LONG A FIVE CITY BUSES!!! Mom, what's a city bus?"IMO the toy or technology you give a child should be age appropriate. An iPhone with open access to the Internet is not safe for a 7 year old to use un monitored. Kids nowadays got iPods laptops Facebook and phones, when I was young all I had to play with was outside. But the way I see it is if they already got their minds around using these, they will be able to create some great technology in the future. I don't see tech as negative, ideas are limitless!
-
If the have to save up for their own technology I can understand that but if they just sit around and didn't do anything for it that is what I don't like:)

When I was little I had a game boy... That's about it, and my first phone when I was like 10 was a tracfone...😓

When I was little there were only 3 things I needed for infinite entertainment. 1-Pokemon. 2- Nintendo 64. 3- playing outside.
This next generation's overwhelmed & spoiled with technology. They say those who complain about the new generation forget who raised them; they don't understand that the technology has raised them. That's why the majority of young kids today lack efficient social skills & personal morals. They socialize by Facebook pics of trees with captions that read "like if you want to climb this" but no one fucking climbs it anymore! They have a shitfest when they dont get exactly what they want.
I was at target last week I saw a 9 yearold crying for candy & playing w/ an iPod. 10 years ago he would have been told no & move on with life. My 12 yearold bro is so annoying w/ his Xbox addiction & claims of how I'm obsessive when he wakes @ 6AM to play it & I wake @ 9 to run, swim, play N64, or SOCIALIZE W/ FRIENDS. The new generation makes me lose faith in humanity's future -

Personally, I don't agree with the idea that I should be expected to give my kids money if they're doing things (they ought to) like cleaning up their room, helping with the dishes, around the house, and the yard. I never was. We all chip in around here. It's expected. Just like when I was growing up. So if I want them to also be tech-savvy (as I was), I can raise them that way. They have toys and things they like, but arent screaming banshees about it. Frankly the "pay me for doing what I ought to" mentality is just as bad. You might as well pay them for taking a crap and hitting the water with it. Makes as much sense. If the have to save up for their own technology I can understand that but if they just sit around and didn't do anything for it that is what I don't like:)

What's wrong with kids getting technology? When I was a kid my parents got PDAs, after a while they got new ones and let me have the old one. I also had a cd player that I stuck in my backpack that would skip every little bump in the road. The iPod/iPhone is just this generations version of my coveted PDA and cd player.
Maybe when I was walking around with my nose in the PDA there was some grumpy person like you that grumbled I shouldnt have a PDA because all they had was a pad of paper when they were young.

Koff koff porn koff koffI gave my son an iPod (I repaired it after buying it cheaply damaged). Total cost around $24. He's seven now and uses it mostly to write stories and trade math problems with his grandfather via email. He also reads Wikipedia and other sources on topics he's curious about--lately dinosaurs. I thought he'd just play and listen to music and that would have been fine, too. He's also into photography and videography.
You would be surprised my friends 10 year old sister knows what porn is -

Some kids have to work very hard for the shiny. Others get it from an early age for just existing. Life isn't fair, kiddo. If the have to save up for their own technology I can understand that but if they just sit around and didn't do anything for it that is what I don't like:)
Instead of feeling bitter that maybe you've had to work so hard for your cool gadgets, just enjoy the rewards for your hard work.
Feelings of envy, jealousy or bitterness over those that have more is a difficult way to navigate the world. Try framing it more positively in your mind, maybe?
How about, "I've worked damn hard for my shiny stuff and I'm proud of my accomplishments. I rule."
See the difference? ✌❤😊

My 13 year old son, who is deaf, has an iPhone. It is his main method of communication with his friends from school, also deaf. Occasionally when I can't understand his signing, he will get into a huff, and text me when I'm next to him.
My 11 year old son has an iPhone too, he is expected to pay for it, and has a weekend job entering invoices onto sage accounts program. Beats the paper round I had at his age. -

No actually I wouldn't. I pre-screen his incoming mail before he reads it, sit with him when he googles, he doesn't have the iTunes password, etc.--it isn't like his iPod is my first iDevice evar. When all else fails if I see something pop up I'm actually with him or his grandfather is and we take it away and fix it. That happened once and it was something scary, not porn. In areas where we can't supervise as well there isn't wifi anyway, so he can't search. We don't even have McDonald's here so that's a moot point. He doesn't take it to school or anywhere else. It stays with me or another adult here when he's out.⌖🔥💋Ultra💋🔥⌖ wrote:
