🏈Penn State Sanctions🏈

What does the community think about the sanctions?
-$60 million fine ( to benefit children's charities)
- loss of 10 scholarships per year
- 4 year ban on any postseason play
- the vacating of the last 14 seasons' records
-5 year NCAA probation. -
The men involved should be punished. And only them.
The NCAA sanctions and penalties are punishing the kids who attend penn state. They did nothing to deserve it. That was wrong.
-
The only one I don't really agree with is the 4 year post season ban. That punishes the current and future players that had nothing to do with the scandal in any way.

Don't forget all current players can choose to transfer out with no transfer penalty. Also they will eventually lose 20 scholarships. What does the community think about the sanctions?

55 of the 60 minutes of sportcenter is on this. Now its on turfwars 😒

The school covered it up from top to bottom. the people such as the trustees that didn't know anything about it still allowed the football program to do whatever it wanted as long as it brought the school money. The kids that are very good at football will be able to go to another collage and play. The ability to learn wont be affected at all. While I hate the fact I won't be able to see the lions play in a bowl game for a long time the education penn state provides is still top notch.
-
The school had to be punished too. Yeah, not everyone knew, but the people in power did know. Those people represent your school. It's sad that the current regime will have to pay for this, but the school has to pay a price for what the people in power allowed to happen and tried to cover up. In a lesser scale example, if the AD and head coach both knowingly allow a student athlete to accept payments from boosters, they will be fired AND the school will still be punished after they're gone.

How about that threat of chemical attacks Syria issued eh? Oh right sports! I forgot...

It's unfair for the people who go to Penn State because of how convenient it is for them. The option to transfer doesn't in any way make this easier for the students. 60 million doesn't seem like a steep enough fine with all things considered.
-
i dont like all the sanctions on football since the players did nothing. but that being said as long as universities put so much pride, money, and importance on athletic teams this is hitting them where it hurts. the football program at psu brings in tens of millions of dollars a year abd is one of the few profitable programs in the country. this sends a message to all schools that athletics is not the most important aspect of college.

Hey well OSU had almost the same postseason ban and some other stuff for something that was not even close to as bad as the PSU thingThe only one I don't really agree with is the 4 year post season ban. That punishes the current and future players that had nothing to do with the scandal in any way.

Money truely outweighed hood decision making here

@anarchist it was an institutional failure, institutional punishment is appropriate
@demon d, how so? I may have the wrong idea of the death penalty
-
I would understand better if it was PSU students who were abused. But it was children who were in the care of an employee not students. Although some of the cases happened on campus, most occurred off campus and years after his employment.
Classic case of an overreaction by the media and an organization to do something that makes our own conscience fell better. Give the 60 million to the victims if it's about them. The people who ran the 2nd mile charity that delivered the kids to him did the most harm?? What is their fine? Ban? JMO!!!! -

The death penalty results in the suspension of the football program for one or more years. The name is deceiving as it does not permantly ban the program. The sanctions that were placed on PSU probably will have worse effects then the death penalty would of anywho. The post season ban will by all means affect top flight recruits from going there as well! The scholarship reduction means they can't miss with the recruits they do get. This will probably plague them for a good 10 years. And that's being generous!Im a little Dissapointed that they didnt get the ncaa death penatly.
