Any electrical engineers out there?
Forums › General Discussion › Any electrical engineers out there?-
I'm 2 years into an electrical engineering degree (pretty much finishing up my mathematics prerequisites) and am wondering, what branch of electrical engineering is the best for pay/job security?
I'm thinking about power, but circuit design is also pretty tempting. Any help would be fantastic, thanks.

I'm an electrical engineering technician as of right now and I do a lot of work with EE's who are in circuit design. It seems like an awesome job, I would look into that!

Well I know it's not going away, I just don't want to be required to move to china or India to compete for a job.Nice Natalie wrote:

That's one of the reasons I thought about power, because barring armageddon, someone will always be needed to design and manage power grids

Power generation is a good idea. Iam not a EE but work with many of them. We deal alot with PLC automation.

Been working in industrial electronics with PLC design and automation. Always doing something different. Keeps it interesting.

Depends on you.. I'm a mechanical engineer work with a lot of electrical engineers.
1. Stress level you are willing to deal with.
2. Money you wish to make.
3. What part of electrical do you like.( wire a house or a mech warrior, computer circuits or flight sim)I myself like to see the things I design come to life.
Look up industrial smoke and mirrors.... In Florida.

We got plc's in the refrigeration industry as well as the oil industry.

As a future engineer major, I have wondered between EE and mechanical engineering. If there is any insight y'all can give me, it would be helpful.

20 year mechanical engineer here, with some fun stuff crossing my desk over the years. As for anything being in danger of being outsourced, you will face that danger in everything except working the counter at McDonalds. Engineering is a very fluid field and the salaries are high enough that companies will always look to see if pennies can be cut from that area. The secret to surviving and thriving in engineering is to enjoying your job, if you enjoy it you will become very good at it. I have found it is a lot easier to go to work in the morning if you find a company that you use the product yourself. That allows you to come up with something you want yourself and then get to work on it. Personally I've been with companies like Harley, Briggs & Stratton, Chrysler and several contract engineering houses over the years. And a few things I worked on I have ended up owning over the years. Fun to look at these things and think "I did that"

Ugh, outsourcing. Don't get me started... 🙎

2 COMPLETELY different animals. I work with both of them. I'm sure you kno which you would b good at, like me I'm an idiot when it comes to mechanical stuff at work cuz I'm an electrical guy. But from all our jokes around here at work, you leave mechanical stuff to the ME's, and electrical stuff to the EE's. Ive found your either one or the other, not good at both lolAs a future engineer major, I have wondered between EE and mechanical engineering. My ex has a pretty sweet job with broadcom
Not exactly sure what type of EE it was but i know she was making pieces for computers, satellites, and TVs.
She had a fantastic salary her first year, got a huge raise, gets sick/days late ins early outs whenever she wants and it seems like a pretty stable job assuming u dont just fuck around.

Thanks for the insight guys and gals, I'll keep anyone who is interested, posted

I enjoy my job as an instrumentation electrician.
That doesn't mean I fix electric guitars by the way!!
I'm doing a telemetry design/installation for welsh water at the moment.
Love it👍✨
