Ok. Here goes. I am a veteran. I am not a supporter of President Obama. That means I did not vote for him in 2008 and I won't in 2012.
That being said.
I support The Constitution. That means President Obama is the Commamder in Chief. One of the first things a young soldier learns is you don't have to respect the man, you just have to respect his position.
As I soldier I served under Bush Sr, Clinton, and Bush Jr.
As for as I was concerned each was my Commander in Chief.Currently President Obama serves as the Commander in Chief. Regardless of their opinion of his policies, service members have sworn to follow his orders. They should honor their oath. If they don't like his policies, they can exercise their right to vote.
-
^but they don't get to vote on his policies, only whether or not he should be in office next year.
My say on this is that I completely agree with him and have agreed with him since they passed NDAA (I was too young to know what the patriot act was when it was passed).

Its not our decission to wage war, only our job to succeed at what we are told to do. When i was active (98-05) i never thought why i did things. Because we took that oath. I remember at the beginning
Of the war in Iraq. We had people saying they wouldnt go. I dont think ive ever been angrier at somone. You made a commitment. Do what you promised america what you would do. Stay out of the who and why. -

Second of all, I can't fully agree with you there. While they did say they would serve, I can see why they wouldn't want to. Forgive me if I'm reading it wrong but it sounds like you think people and soldiers should just go into things with blind obedience. -

As far as voting for policy. Of course the soldiers don't get to vote on policy. But their vote can affect policy, and in an election year it can change, or affirm policy by voting to re-elect the current policy maker or voting to change the policy maker.

Clone
Soldiers, Saliors, Marines, Airmen, do not go into things blind. They recognize somethings are bigger and more important than the individual. In other words they sacrifice their freedoms to gaurantee the freedoms of others.
Today's US military is an all volunteer force, and has been since the 1970's. Dispite popular belief, most servicemembers join because of a desire to serve their country, not for educational benefits or because they lack other opportunities.
My view has always been.
I may not agree with you, but I am willing to fight to give you the right to express your opinion.

If you join the armed forces amd arent ready to do whatever they want to do, when they tell you to, your already blind. At my unit we had 5 man crew for what we did. I trained, lived, slept, ate and everything else with these people.......

.....cont. I worked for them fpr years. The same 4 people. Under the expectation that they would be there for me when i needed them. Yes they make a commitment to the country but the biggest commitment is to their brothers and sisters. To let the team down when they need you most pathetic and not upholding your commitment to your country is called treason, punishble by death at a time of war.

We had a guy fake a back injury. Years of training and familiarity was gone wen he was replaced. We did not have
Nice things to say to our
No longer brother that we would have died for but
Now would not pee on if he were on fire. Leave politics to politicians. Theres plenty of time to think about it wen ur out. Plus alot of civillians dont understand the impact of the decissions being made anyways. -
Pella,
I think we agree on more than we disagree.
I do not believe people should go into things blind. I believe they they should enter into things fully aware. That includes military service.
As a service member you may be ordered to do something that is likely to lead to your death. As a service member, you are duty bound to follow those orders, as long as they are not unlawful. That includes orders you believe may lead to your death or the death of your comrades.
Consider for a moment if the men ordered to storm Normaday on June 6, 1944, had said, "You know what General Eisenhower, I believe your order will lead to my death. We therefore refuse to invade Europe and cast aside Nazi oppression."
Such action is incompatible with competent military leadership. Lawful orders must be followed, even if the soldier believes following that order will lead to his death.

Ragnar- your absolutly right. And the people i had seen saying they wouldnt go when it first started, most were in fear for their life, not some political agenda. It was also before 14 years of war to so people were scared. We all were. I remember people, e7's that said they didnt join to go to war. I couldnt imagine. Those are they ones that go first because they are so worried about what and why, and whose in office. They arent there to get the job done and go home so we can all do it again tomorrow. But also, i enlisted at 17 years old and might of well been blind.

I was 17 when I enlisted in 1989. 19 during Desert Storm, turned 24 prepping to go to Bosnia.
I got married right after Desert Storm. We had our 1st child in 95 second in 98. I had planned on making a career of the military. By 2001 I was tired of being away from my family. I got out in May, 2001. On September 11th, I told my wife I was gonna go enlist again. She told me otherwise.
Sometimes you just gotta follow orders.
