Though the stories of our individual soldiers may be interesting, I do hope you realize you're asking them to relive some of te most frightening moments of their lives. My future brother in law is a marine and we talk about the stupid shit he did in boot camp or shit he did while foolin around on base, but out of respect I would never ask him about his combat experiences. I just feel it is disrespectful.

I was Air Force and my only deployment was to Miami FL #paidvacation

YOU were banned because someone else added a hashtag? Doesn't seem fair

I think it was because of his reaction to their hashtag. I may be wrong though. My memory sucks.✵ᎢཡཇཇᏦ✵ wrote: The last time someone did a hash tag, I got banned... With that being said,

Exactly. If you wanna know about schools, boot camp or being an idiot in the barracks. I can do that all day. But to ask about war "stories" is different. I wouldnt call them stories. Stories are what i read to my kids before bedtime. If i shared my experiences, they wouldnt sleep. Judging from your name I see some interest in service. Theres nothing like knowing you have served with the best for your country. But before you make a decission my advice is visit a VA hospital and talk with the real heroes and see if thats what you want to deal with every day for the rest of your life. To me it was worth it and i would do it again, selfishly. To my family it will never be worth the cost. If you want a first hand account and are ready to read what its about, i also suggest ready "lone survivor" written by marcus luttrel. And when that pisses you off and you want to know how that could happen, read "the looming towers, the road to 9/11.

I have stories that keep me up at night. I have stories that cause me to forget where I am sometimes when I accidentally recollect them. I have stories that scare my loved ones when I am woken up in the middle of the night by them. Not things to share.

My husband best friends nephew who was a ground troop doing a watch in Iraq was shot through his arm pit by a sniper the bullet exploded his heart. This man had a wife and a 2 year old daughter at home. The guy that was with him shoved his hand in the hole in his chest to try and stop the bleeding and felt his heart beat for the last time. The only thing this family has left to remind them of this brave man is pictures, medals, and a flag.

This is much easier to tell in person, but I'll try to do it justice. I was on a patrol in a tropical jungle in a country I am not at liberty to name. It was dusk and, in the jungle, this means it was about to be pitch black. We set up a perimeter and settled in for the night. A few hours later, someone on watch heard a noise and passed the signal to wake us all up. There was some rustling in the forest and it sounded like a group of men walking through. The patrol leader yelled for them to stop, but they continued toward us. He yelled stop again, but still, they continued. He gave the signal to open fire, and the entire patrol suddenly opened up on them. We emptied, reloaded, emptied, reloaded, and continued until everyone was out of ammunition. Finally, we were out of ammo and they stopped moving.
-
The patrol leader radioed in that we spent all of our ammo on the enemy and would need resupplied in the morning. It was daylight soon and we got up to investigate. That's when we found out who the enemy was. It was a pack of howler monkeys. We had slaughtered a pack of howler monkeys. We collected their bodies and body parts (we used our grenades, too). I can only imagine how the patrol leader explained that to command.

USMC, sorry everyone else is giving you a hard time. You wanted Marine stories because that's the branch you're going into. It's not offensive to ask a general question. If people don't want to relive their war stories, they don't have to. I have more marine stories, though I may get a few details wrong, since I wasn't actually there. But if you want submarine stories, I can give you some of those, too. After all, the only good marine is a submarine.See, not all war stories are horror stories. I was in the Navy, on a submarine. This was not my story, but we had a former Marine on our crew, and he loved to tell stories.
